The solution is to make sure they have something to lose. A nice life for example. A small house, a fridge with some food, a small job and some income. Maybe a pet, maybe a vacation every now and then. Maybe a bit of education. A doctor to go to when sick. A small saving in the bank so there is no stress when something goes wrong.
I once got that in an iron man match in OpenXcom... When you loose every unit on the map (yes, your last one goes down with their last one), you lose the base. Man was I pissed... Fucking Cyberdiscs.
