The FAA declared "national defense airspace" over El Paso, grounded every flight for 10 days, and authorized deadly force against any aircraft that enters the zone without offering an explanation.

That designation hasn't been used domestically since September 11, 2001, when the country was under active attack. This time, the federal government shut down a major American city's airspace and pointed weapons at the sky.
More than half the country is already exhausted by Trump's personal army of federal agents and his loyalist’s capricious, contradictory policies. This is exactly the kind of system shock that America and Americans don’t need during a time when Trump has threatened NATO, other allies, and holds another country’s president in a New York jail cell.

"under new guidance from the Trump administration, only U.S. flags or ones authorized by Congress can fly at sites run by the National Parks Service." So can we get Congress to authorize it?

If it helps, the reason the meeting was then cancelled entirely was some of the GOP governors not wanting to take part in it.

#14 Rachel Maddow had a segment on Project Salt Box on her show Monday. They have an interactive map of where ICE is buying warehouses. Of course now ICE is trying to hide their purchases, turns out people don't want warehouse prisons.

1 month ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

So, if people don't want a thing, the solution is to... still have the thing, just hide it?

That sounds like a LOT of work, and expense, when it would be easier to... not make the thing.

Number 19 is about the SAVE Act. They'll lower that limit and revoke passports for anyone who owes child support.

I also suspect this sets precedent to revoke passports for people who are behind on student loans.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What you allow the government to do against those you don't like will then be used against those you do like. And I don't like them being able to do this at all. Why do they need to revoke passports for this? It makes me wary they're gearing up to claw them away from anyone they want so they can't run away from the rising tyranny.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Voter disenfranchisement isn't the only thing they might be doing with this. I wonder how much longer it's going to be before people who NEED to run can't.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That seems odd; most of the people who owe child support are men, & a lot of what's going on with SAVE seems like it's targeting women.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The goal is to disenfranchise Women, POC, and educated folks - people that by % of the population tend to vote Democrat.

I'm not sure what the metrics are, but I'm betting what they're going for are men of color who owe back child support along with setting a prescient for student loans.

#9 seems rather unusual, any theories around for that one?

T**** has repeatedly said he wants to send the US military into Mexico to attack the cartels. Mexico has repeatedly rejected the suggestion. I suspect the administration plans to do it anyway, again committing an act of war not sanctioned by Congress, this time against an ally, that they will then claim isn't an act of war because of some flimsy excuse that it's actually meant as a precedent for taking up arms against an allied nation. Fun times.

You know, I've read a couple of novels and a few short stories about El Paso becoming a city-state border nightmare DMZ thing without any real reason or notice... hmm...

And it sure seems like life is imitating art a lot more lately.

1 month ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I did some research and last year it averaged a little over 10.5K passengers in/outbound a day, so thats a lot of money being lost for no reason. For this particular location I can only think of a couple reasons this would be done, and neither of them are good, my guess is either nukes or immigration shenanigans.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

they said "whoops" and walked it back. https://kfoxtv.com/news/local/faa-grounds-all-flights-to-and-from-el-paso-until-feb-20 what a shitshow.

Mexican Cartel Drone?
That’s the excuse? Should have said Alien Drones…. God

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NOT SUS AT ALL, GUYSSSSSS.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

oh and that "Mexican cartel drone breach" explanation is complete and utter horseshit. that's not the way things work.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Probably just some local flying a drone around. They have to make it sound important -drug cartel drone- so that they don’t seem quite so idiotic.
‘We are doing our patriotic duty to protect you from drugs! And cartels! And….stuff!’

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No, the way these things work are breach, alert, response. you don't respond, rescind and explain it as a breach. at best its incompetent. but Im not believing the best here.

7, 13, & 21 are good.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's fair and the outcomes are (currently) good, but the fact that these are newsworthy issues is bad in my opinion. I know that's a pessimistic view, but I am struggling to be optimistic these days for very understandable reasons.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So is 19, as a start - i believe the number should be far lower than 100K

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Good as long as it is applied fairly. My hopes aren't high.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's really not. The child support system is totally broken and corrupt. I know someone still paying his debt down. All his children are in their 20s. His ex wife lied about not having a job, even though she had a full time job with benefits. He had custody of 2 of 3 kids; he was still ordered to pay a high amount. They just do whatever they want over there.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So that's a broken situation that needs to be fixed. That can be done by allowing family court access to Tax info, and general stricter application of employer tax compliance combined with the same online tax systems other countries use.
Maybe even allowing family judges to view bank data.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hear what you're saying, but the court did have access to her records. They were biased in her favor as these courts often are. It's easy to believe bad things said about men, but harder to believe bad things about women. So they often assume she is the one telling the truth, and that's what happened here. The brokenness goes all the way up and down the system. I could go into nauseating detail lol

19 is them taking away an ID that can be used for voting.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why should you need ID in America? Move to wholesale write in voting and be done with it.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Now say that to the GOP & watch how they react.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why is that one okay? They're just paving the way to revoke passports from anyone they want that has a debt and that should be extremely alarming considering how much of the US has one type of debt or another. What we approve of them doing today will be used in ways we don't approve tomorrow.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I never go for the slippery slope argument. Its like saying "It can be said that if we ban murder they will next ban killing for self defense".

You are arguing against a real problem by proposing some future hypothetical that may or may not even happen. When it comes time to pass legislation for debtors, then that has to get legislated on its merits. Like we should do for every single law.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except that is EXACTLY what the US government does. How many times have they even before Trump passed something that sounds good and was okay with the public and then pushed it further and further to abuse it? All the laws they pushed forward post-911 taking advantage to take away rights and privacy under excuses of safety? They literally want to abuse their power and shove in laws so they can expand them to who they really want to hit. This regime is not here for our good, I do not trust them.
