it occurred to me the other day why a civil war between progressive and conservative states isn't possible.
Conservative states are mostly dependent on Washington in order to keep their governments propped up. They are financially in the red, while progressive states are consistently in the black.
The Trump and MAGA states would go broke within a month. They wouldn't be able to afford a war.

The Ukraine war has shown political scientists the errors of assuming too much of the power of economic interdependence in preventing war. With each sanction, each economic action, we were sure that it would stop Putin in his tracks. They just ended up making their own banks and increasing their own production. Do not underestimate the power of stupid, yet powerful, belligerent people willing to wage violence just because.

Two things. Firstly, although there are Red States and Blue, it should also be noted that population density matters. Any area with <800 people/sq mile has a 60% of going Red. So any "war" would be a lot of regional shit with islands of Blue. States don't matter, logistics does.
Secondly, war is inherently an irrational act. Peace is profitable for combatants. War is profitable for outsiders. To start a war is to give up rational behavior for irrational reasons like pride, power, or anger.

The answer is no.
