How much does it cost? Do you rent or do you buy?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god no... Yeah we totally need more of this and the idiots in raggy disguise on go karts. Can you be more annoying and tacky, tourists?

Hello, this rental store is owned by Japanese people and my friend Peach Milky works there as their official model, they hire her regularly to model new arrival. She invited me to do this photoshoot as the owner wants to promote their services to tourists as it is not well known to foreigners and the owners want to make it more inclusive to tourists. The owner thank me very much for making this video which helped them promote their japanese owned business to a wider audience. I hope this helps.

Already did! My fiancรฉe and I went to Kyoto and did this. It was fall time and she had a kimono with a white base, but it was covered with red and yellow flowers and a red obi. Since it was fall, all the leaves around us were red and yellow and orange and she fit right in. We had a professional photographer as well so we have phenomenal pictures!

That's awesome I am glad you got to enjoy the culture together ๐Ÿ˜Š

Think they'd be ok if a 6'5 bear tried wearing a kimono there?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes it's for men as well :)

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well that's adorable

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I hope this stays a thing. They were cool to see in Kyoto, I'm just worried about a few bad/inconsiderate tourists ruining it for everyone else.

Im brand new to the modeling world but have been thinking of doing a modern/Kimono style shoot, if you want to do a collab or talk project ideas feel free to DM me! :)

Over the years of our visiting Japan my wife and I have made many wonderful friends. Recently we have discovered that in many households' family Kimono present the same problem as Aunt Gertrude's fine bone china, i.e., no one in the next generation wants them. This is to say that my wife has been gifted several incredibly beautiful hand painted silk Kimono and brocade Obe. We're not quite sure what we will do with these, but they were too beautiful to leave behind.

I would love one. I didn't know where to wear it though. Probably, like the China, people might cut it up for new things

I would die to get handed down beautiful Kimonos omg you're so lucky

This woman, believe it or not, is 47 years old

There are loads of places that rent out kimonos, particularly in Kyoto.

SUCK IN THAT GUT WHILE THEY'RE WRAPPING YOU

I have a question..... How did they poop?

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Carefully and probably only when not going out

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A lot of slips were essentially bottomless and breezy. To poop or pee you just grabbed the rim of your dress, lifted a bit from the ground, and squatted.

The split drawers pull apart, everything else you just lift carefully

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They drag that tent around, they can just squat anywhere i suppose

the newer versions aren't as portable

My half-Japanese wife won't even get her kimono sent from back home. ๐Ÿ™„ Funny thing is, she walks like she's wearing one! Gods she'd be cute!

Kimono stress me out. My grandma makes me wear a Junihitoe worth like $50K to formal events, and I always get paranoid.

I am sorry to hear you have had bad experiences with Kimono in the past :(

dont worry about it, the comment you replied to was made from a known bullshitter. they make up stories as they go. formerly known as dr elizabeth takeda on here.

My spouse does this sort of thing when visiting Japan

1 month ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

My spouse is half-Japanese, owns a kimono, still won't get it sent to America. Such a damned shame. ๐Ÿ˜”

That's really courageous of him.

Kimono rental is like the rent a swag store from Parks and Rec! Aka a surprisingly brilliant idea. Bet they make some good money

1 month ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

They got something similar to that in Disneyland, but for kids

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Long time no see yuzu, hoping you weren't banned from the platform like UK users

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They did what to UK users ???

I was in Tokyo 2 years ago and went to a major dept store that had Kimonos. I wanted to buy one for my wife but was surprised to see prices in the range of the equivalent of $700-800 USD. I'm going back this year, any places that sell them for less?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those are already cheap especially if they are brand new. They're handmade

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TIL! I didn't realise they were handmade. Thank you for replying! ๐Ÿ˜Š

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean some of them, especially the cheap pnes might be mass produced, but if this was a real Kimono store then they're artisans products

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You just triggered a memory. ๐Ÿ˜Š I recall now that the sleeves were unfinished and that they would measure you and finalize the garment thereafter. Beautiful stuff, I just had no clue about the $$$.

cultural appropriation is not wrong unless done by 'influencers' for insta clicks

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 30

Look up the definition of cultural appropriation you brain dead moron. You being offended for an entire group isnt the same thing. Moron.

Ah, was waiting on the moron that posted this

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And here I thought there might be a post without a mention of cultural appropriation

1 month ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

This is definitionally not cultural appreciation you fuckin' toddler, that isn't what those words mean. This isn't like a white person wearing a war bonnet, this is travelers to a country engaging with the people and the culture of that country in a respectful, appropriate manner by learning how they wear a (traditional, accessible, non-religious/officiatory/etc) garment in the proper way.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

No one in Japan is opposed to visitors wearing traditional clothing, actually you're being encouraged to and japanese people will take pictures of you to show their family at home, especially if you have blonde or red hair. Have experienced this firsthand.
This is not cultural appropriation.

1 month ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

> especially if you have blonde or red hair
they do have a bit of a thing for fair skin and light hair - you can be an uggo but if you're blonde you're kinda big in Japan (sorry Alphaville)

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Well you see, Japan doesn't have a bitch-ass culture that fears other people adopting its practices and styles.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think it's all about respect of the culture you're using elements from - putting on a bindi for fashion without understanding what it means is questionable; a proper kimono that Japanese people welcome you to wear wouldn't be

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Unless I missed something and you were recently made Minister Of Kimono Usage, lighten the fuck up.

1 month ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Is it cultural appropriation when the people are the ones encouraging it?

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

not anti-komono nor anti-cultural appropriation, im anti-influncer

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Well then why did you bring it up? You might not like influencers, but you used cultural appropriation as your reason. Brain dead moron.
