A great drink for the disillusioned, with vitamins and minerals, and a nice mix of sweet and sour.

This is a classic recipe. Mine varies a bit:
- 3 parts rum
- 1 part each maraschino, lime, grapefruit juices
- 2 parts filtered water
- 2 filtered ice cubes

Step 1: Have filtered water, make ice cubes. Add 2 of them to the shaker.

Step 2: Maraschino liqueur - without HFCS it's like 5 calories and the drink tastes better to me. And the fully sweet one works great too. The shaker lid makes a great measuring device. 1 lid full.

Step 3: Lime juice. This brand tastes like key lime pie. Sadly Safeway just discontinued them, so hopefully other places will still carry. Else it's back to store brand. Also 1 lid full.

Step 4: Grapefruit juice brings a lot of tart but also a lot of sweetness. This is 100% grapefruit, no added sugar - the plant naturally gives it about half as much as soda, and that's the only sugar in this drink. Other kinds work but this makes the drink taste better.

At this point, the air filter bumps up a level, to pull all the citrus molecules out of the air.

Step 5: Yum rum! 2.5 lids becomes 3 lids easily.

Adding the rum smell to the air kicks the air filter to max.

Step 6: Filtered water to give all the flavors space to move around. 2 lids. This part comes from the Grog recipe, and old traditions of mixing whisk(e)y, scotch, absinthe, etc with water. Same filter makes the ice.

Step 7: Shake it up! Put the camera down and use both hands, OP!

Et voila! Marachino cherries as garnish, to use them up. (Gotta do something with them, amirite?)

That's not Maraschino liqueur, that's red dye and sugar syrup. This is what you need.

Is that cherry liquor?

The stuff I have can't be sugar syrup - only has 5 calories and isn't nearly sweet enough.

Still, Maraschino liqueur and what comes out of a cherry jar are not the same thing.
