It is absolutely ridiculous that this didn't end with a woman raising her eyebrows, so I guess I'll be over here raising my eyebrows.

Note that the end of the thread appears to have been waxed to reintegrate any loose fibres and apply an unnatural amount of structural rigidity. I would welcome seeing the test with standard thread cut normally. Will allow for a human to lick their fingers and twirl the end since that would be within the realms of 'realworld actions', but somewhat undercuts the "robots rock" message.

Wonder when this will be considered safe for surgery? When can we see the hundreds of medical clinics opening up providing inexpensive medical care?

Because that's what the wealthy people who control this technology will do with it, right?

Right?

That’s all fine and good in a perfect world where the nuts don’t bind up or get caught on debris on the threads.

It works for assembly. It likely doesn’t work for repair except on, for example, newer cars with very standardized locations. If manufacturers want to, they can start supplying dealers with robots that could do basic maintenance on vehicles of known specific layouts.

Not convinced in the least that this isn't CGI.

Yeah, I wanna see the full robot controlling them, but also it's probably all preprogrammed movements, which is why it doesn't fully tighten any of the nuts. It probably can't pick up and thread a needle, at least not yet.
