Mom owns seven acres up by Mount Shasta that used to be a goat farm because the terrain is too steep for crops or cows. Amtrak charges about fifty bucks for me to get there so I can afford it. She asked me to come spend a week house sitting and I was already sold. But she told me that not only would I be taking care of the all time winner of the Scooby Doo look alike contest my uncle would be dropping of his dogs too.

So I will have the ranch to myself and a stocked fridge and a few cases of beer and the bestest dogs to play with and get to enjoy wearing shorts and sandals. And she has a couple small gas engines she wants to me to troubleshoot. And I have a rasberypi I have been meaning to upgrade her tech. And I was too broke to get her a decent Christmas present but she would love it if I knocked down all the dry grass before wildfire season

I mean.... I love my mom real bad so of course that is why I am going up there.

But like also every time I hang out at my mom's place I wake up with an entire pack of dogs on my chest. I like sleeping on the couch in the living room and will wake up with a great dane trying to be my little spoon and a lap dog on my chest and the two huskies sitting on the floor next to the couch. And all of them are like "dude we know you love throw just all the things for us and we have been waiting for you to wake up"

go enjoy paradise!

every time i looked for a job it rarely got a call back, and when i did, it was 6-9 months after applying. Some even 3-6 months after i started working for a company

Just got a job offer yesterday after looking since July. It literally took me using AI to rewrite my resume to match key words and matching language to each job posting to get past the ATS systems and start getting replies even then lots of rejection. Keep your head up and dont get discouraged. Do the crap temp work at employment agencies if necessary.

I am pet sitting too soon, I always have my stock joke. If I need to take care of drunks, dogs, or kids... I need a paycheck. You charge by night and dog you hear! I'll come over and help but we'd be splitting that for six puppers. Cats are cool though cats are like give me the fridge raid. Well give me 10 bucks extra per cat for the whole time I'm there

Not for nothing, but when prior to opening her business, my wife was walking dogs and pet-sitting on Rover and making like $1,000 a week. Could be an interesting way to get some scratch while you search.

The dog pile wakeup sounds real nice. I know there's technically health risks but... The mental health benefits...

my wife has been unemployed for around a year now.
Luckily we are in the position that with my income our worry is that we cant put money into our 2026 IRA's (only m y401k) or take any additional vacation that the one we did in december to go overseas.

I do NOT understand how single or single parents make it through. Or anyone working (near) minimum wage survives in this country

We need highe taxes for people making my income and above so we cant get some basics needs covered in this country

It's really bad, dude. It's not just you. Just try and remember that in the grand scheme of things, your employment status isn't ultimately important. As long as you have some food, a roof over your head and beings that care about you, you're golden.

That's what you deserve for hurting people for fun, /jk good luck out there

May be of no help here but to anyone else reading up that's struggling to get an interview let alone an offer, the AI screening process has taught me the job title I had at my old job for the last 10 years is not what the marketplace would call what I did. I had to stop applying for the same job title and relearn what the industry is calling what I did/do/want to do. As much as I hate using AI I had to in order to reverse engineer the problem and when I uploaded my resume into AI and then /1

2/ asked it what jobs I would be best suited for it returned a bunch of titles similar to mine but not the same and when I applied to those jobs, I got traction and interviews and eventually an offer but it's a rough market for sure right now. Best of luck getting past the screening.

Thank you for a little bit of validation. Every job search platform I use that looks through my profile and resume suggests high level positions, meanwhile I’m being reached out to by recruiters for grunt work.

I've got ~5 years experience and still being turned down from "entry level" jobs that barely pay above minimum wage.

I guess I'm just not pulling my bootstraps hard enough.

Things are rough. Economy has squeezed things so I can't afford to hire on any more experienced people. But job market is so bad I've been hiring experienced people to do low-level work. It's kind of shit all around. Good luck out there!

And here I cant even find grunt work. The only stuff available is part time evening work that pays half of what I already make.

So you already have a job?

21 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Im looking for another because management is actively hostile towards the works. Im tired of the super toxic atmosphere. There just isnt any full time jobs where I live.

There just aren't that many anywhere sadly
