A lot of parenting and workplace communication courses mostly teach people how to listen. The next most important thing is to clearly repeat back what you heard or understood them say, that way if you misheard or misunderstood they can correct you. After that it's a lot of manipulation techniques, and that's where they lose me. It feels really dirty to talk about other people as problems to your life and how to navigate them with pandering.
