@makeupbillyfx sci fi horror and zombies are my jam but not much more. Depends on the movie I suppose. There's schlock and then there's movies that defy our everyday genre expectations

isn't scary movie like a parody thing? with weed and transphobia?
DrewThe3DPrinterGuy
I don't think they mean Scary Movie™ as much as "a movie that is scary"

Horror is my favorite genre.

Next, and a close second, is comedy.
GravyEducation
So your favorite movie is either Tucker and Dale Vs
Evil or Shaun of the Dead? :) not a huge horror guy but sci fi horror is really good. Games, now games I just can't do much horror outside zombies. Games are great because you have agency. Horror games tend to take away that agency and that I don't cope with well... nobody in a horror story has much control over what's happening next
epicurusaquinas
My faves are movies like Alien, The Thing & some others.
You mis-interpreted a combination of 2 genres I mentioned. I wasn't saying "horror-comedy" genre. I was saying horror is my fave genre. Comedy is, separately, my 2nd fave.
To your last statement, in horror one has to deal with fear. Yes, some monster or other external agent is the antagonist. You can't control them.
But truthfully in life you NEVER control externals. Many people try or even believe they control externals. 1/
epicurusaquinas
And it is certainly true one CAN influence externals.
But actual & complete control of external agents is not completely possible no matter what resources you command.
"Facing your fear" or mastering yourself is the real engine of the story in horror films. The supernatural or chaos or the unknown behind the antagonist is a mechanism. Emotional mastery of yourself is the real protagonist.
And sometimes good guys lose (Stephen King stories for example). That's a parallel to life. Cheers! 2/2

"Sometimes you get wrung by the bell curve" https://youtu.be/NllarfKLiE0 its always a given in a game that there will be times they pull the rug out from you. It just feels realer when you are in direct control vs watching a movie. Like *i* could have done something! Which makes horror particularly scary. Amnesia was the worst I got 60 or 90 minutes into it and NOOOOOPE

Yeah I spend time learning how to navigate my emotions in real life. I also do therapeutic listening for people who can't afford a "real" therapist XD.
So I kinda like talking overcoming fears or anger or despair-in-general. It's sorta "my calling".
It's nice to feel in control. For sure. I need to get off social media for a few hours now though. Stuff to do. Was very nice sorta chatting with you. You seem cool.

My two big "never seent it" confessions are I've never seen Pulp Fiction beyond the first scene and I've never seen the Thing

Sorry I spent 7 more minutes finishing my thought while you were answering the first part of it. Lol.
What kind of movies do you like? (Or stories in general?)
GravyEducation
I'm kinda on my day off and I'm zoning out and dancing with Mary Jane myself. I too love comedies. I love everything basically, cliche to say but there's no genre I dislike if its well done. I'm particularly attached to sci fi and comic book stories. I just played Guardians of the Galaxy for ps4 and I was stunned by how good it felt to just play Guardians in a video game in a mechanically accurate way... like Spidey or Batman feels in games, nailed it
