Spotted tonight on my way home. I made a stop by the river to try to get a decent photo in the dark.
The Moon's 22° halo is caused by moonlight refracting through hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. These crystals behave like prisms, bending light at a 22° angle.
