Nah , that older stuff has vibe to it . And it's smooth flowing.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mumble rap sucks. There IS good rap made today, but none of it is mumble shit.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The good music survives. We just have to wade through the sea of crap of the current times for the gems to show later on.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

Importantly, this is true of the music in the past. There's ALWAAAAYSSS been a biblical plague of truly SHIT music to filter out.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. When people think back at all the great 80s rock, it is only the music that survived. What you dont see is all the shit rock music made

Eminem asks for some more snare just once and every other rapper is like, all snare all the time

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I promise there's amazing hip hop happening right now, if you want to look to the shitty examples in popular music you'll always find 'em.

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

yeah there was shit hip hop in the 80s 90s and ever since, but a lot of this is "popular" and hits

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Survivor's bias.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The problem is I don't have time to sort through the crap to find the good stuff. Just gave up listening to 'current' music.

The worst bit about this video is that I could probably do the same for the music these two listen to...

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

And so will the people who listen to "today's music", tomorrow.

Holy shit. Is that what they said? I wonder what the hell I mumble-rapped when trying to learn english in ninetyfo'

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They say it in the very beginning, it could also be a reference to the young guns movies where billy the kid yells the same thing

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know where they said it, but I was always curious what I said & shouted myself, as a Norwegian rapper-to-fail

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. Bad enough to reuse the idea, but to straight up take the audio, mime the action, and upload it onto your monetized channel is extra

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Just wait, people are gonna start copyrighting their memes haha.

Lol hip hop boomers be like kids today bruh.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 29

Nah man I like Migos and future but I agree with what snoop said, everyone tryin to sound like them is just annoying

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

50 is a boomer? His debut wasn't even 20 years ago. Doggystyle isn't 30 years old yet.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ya but tbf they don’t live that long so 50 in hop hop years is like 80

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

Wow. You're stupid AND a piece of shit. Cool combo!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like how you’re taking some dumb off-hand remark so seriously, you must be popular

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That entourage! 4 guys in black shirts, gold chains and baseball caps.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So glad Snoop recognizes today's garbage.

3 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 11

Real recognizes fake, for real.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That wasn't his point though. He wasn't saying it was objectively garbage, just that they are trying to sound the same

3 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 2

He doesn't want to discourage them, but also doesn't want them thinking they are talented.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

But that, as artists, they should find their own style, instead of trying to be popular and sell records, make their "own"music.

3 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

It's wild he's a reddit mod of r/trees and... r/art ... although looks like he wandered off a few years ago.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm sure he probably did an AMA and was given those positions on his account purely for honorary reasons and not bc he actually mods it.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah...for r/art. Wasn't he one of the first few mods in r/trees and r/circlejerk ~8 years ago though? Thought he did a little, early.

Really just a case for how bad radio is

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

nah the ratio of bad:good music is definitely skewed more to bad as more and more content is readily available.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah, it's garbage. there's good music being made every year going back to the dawn of music, but you'd never know it listening to the radio

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Okay grandpa let's get you back to bed. /s for real though young ppl don't use the radio.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eh. Even then there are good radio stations. Always the good classical music radio.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Odds are good ONE company owns over 75% of the radio stations in your city.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Even XM is really hit or miss depending on the channel

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cumulus or iHeart radio. Absolute garbage; and they sync ad breaks so you can't even change to change to find music. All ads.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

iHeartRadio is owned by the same company that owns most of the radio stations in the US. So yeah it's gonna be just as bad.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And they don't care what is playing as long as the advertising dollars are coming in.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Y'all made fun of boomers for doing exactly this. Don't be like that.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 14

Boomers did have way better music you gotta at least give them that

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I hate when people drive by with those first few, where it's just designed to shake windows and sounds like garbage.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're very welcome

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Growing up in peak hip hop with Dre, Biggie, 2pac, Jay Z, Eminem will do that to you.

3 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 11

Pretty sure the ones still alive are all producing music now? And Kendrick is just as good as them imo

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Kendrick, I’m meh on his lyrical content but I do agree, he’s talented and can spit bars. For sure.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fugees, Cypress Hill

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Ah yes, the classic lines like thirty-eight revolve like the sun round the earth or never let me slip, cause if I slip, then I'm slippin.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Dre was not known for lyrical dexterity but is a production genius. He’s still relevant, 30 years later. How many artists can say the same?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, quite some. And plenty of current artists will be relevant in 30 years, we just don't know yet which. Music didn't peak in past.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Digital Underground & Das Efx for me.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck yes. But I thought Das Efx’s output in the 2000’s was weak/inconsistent. Maybe I heard the wrong things. Any suggestions?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I only ever had their first two releases (on cassette). I didn't know they were still around in the 2000s!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

the old rap in these examples is better (IMO), yeah, but there's good and bad music in every era

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The real question is, how is all this bad music nowadays making it to the top of the chartsssss!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it usually does, although the ratio of good to bad music at the top of the charts fluctuates. IMO the 80's had a better ratio of good to bad

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is good music made today, but the tracks picked here is not in that category lol - so much crap rap made nowadays.

3 years ago | Likes 1159 Dislikes 20

95% of everything is and always has been shit, but we only remember the 5%

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*are

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was always crap music and most of that was in the charts. The late 90s was wall to wall techno in the charts where I'm from!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

So much crap (insert genre) made (insert time). Music's always sucked. That anything good is produced is a damn miracle.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Theres plenty of music that is good or sounds like the music we liked growing up, just popularity shifts as kids break away from whats 'old'

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you're less likely to hear stuff that is more your 'style' the older you get because its not the popular style with the kids.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there was a lot of crap back then too, but rose coloured glasses etc

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

no rose coloured glasses, all that crap is still crap

Action Bronson, Danny Brown, Kendrick, Yelawolf. Solid new school

Metal music as a genre has never had so much great shit coming out and in so many different styles. Metal is thriving.

They call me wack, and yet I'm rappin this fax like a jerry can full of wax. I got a dime to my name, this is my fame, I'm pretty lame...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Crap rap” I first heard this used in 2001. So… everything is rap crap depending on how narrow your acceptance is for art you don’t agree w/

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

I first heard the term "Crap rap" in the late 80s. Though it was more against the entire genre and not certain artists within it.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

100% this.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I always heard "can't spell Crap without Rap", but that's stupidly dismissive.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We've since made things more accessible and inclusive so that opens the gate to everyone who was struggling before. Like the stupid people.

3 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 2

There's always been a lot of fodder, time leaves us with the best while most of what was made then is forgotten.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can also select whatever fanbase you want now. You can exclusively produce music for the bottom 15% of the bell curve

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, "filters" have been removed. Which allows some good to get through as well, but a lot of garbage too :-/

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I'm all for removing the filters. I'd much rather have someone blow up from grass roots enjoyment rather than an industry plant.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Me too, I'm good at skipping the crap that comes through, but I love the gold nuggets that make it but would otherwise be blocked.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

going to be a lot of turds and odds are high a lot of those turds will be huge for a little while. Time will filter it out as it always has.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Filter your turds, people

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's a phenomenon called the sieve of time.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I disagree. There was/is a metric ton of great rap songs both old school and new. Not a tiny minority by any stretch.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

There can be a fuckton of great stuff out there, and it'll *still* be in the minority. For two reasons: 1) people have different tastes. ~

3 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

~ My GREAT is someone else's SHITE - and vice versa. And 2) there is SO. MUCH. Stuff out there. And its become easier than ever before to ~

~ get your stuff to other people's ears, so we are being exposed to a lot more of it than before. The classics and potential classics are ~

3 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

No, it's still a tiny minority. Then and now. Most stuff is crap, music, books, movies, etc. Just the nature of life.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If you like that song. Bones-hdmi, Xavier wulf- Akina speed star, suicideboys- sleep walk. Lmk if you like these and I'll put you on more

Denzel curry. RTJ. Pusha T. Aesop rock. All current, good rap. Maybe Danny brown too but I'm not a fan

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everything sounds the same, a high-hat tapping on beat and stupid low base over mumbled words about something stupid.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Man, what I'd give for catchy fast pace music like we had in the mid 2000's to mid 2010's. Everything seems so slow now.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I find it same-y as well, a lot of the same cadences. I guess most genres are like that maybe, and with rap it just sticks out to me more /1

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

because I dislike it? Same with country. Or maybe because I don't listen to it, all I hear is what's on the radio or on commercials or /2

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

whatever and perhaps the same kind of sound always "wins" for that? Anyway, whatever it is about it, I can't see much difference between /3

it all. /4

Pitch correction ≠ vocoder. If you can hear it, it's a stylized choice. When you can't hear it, it's almost definitely being used anyway.

Even Post Malone has blatantly said many times that he couldn't sing without auto tune. He's one of the most popular artist out there.

Cher did it as a novelty and used it sparingly (go listen again). Now it's just the norm.

Sure; my point is that Cher demonstrates that autotune can be an artistic choice. If people don't like it, that's fine.

Iron Maiden had a new album drop last year but i wouldn't call them modern

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Idk is their music still artistically relevant and influential? Are they advancing their genre? Kendrick still is. Very much so.
