22 Degree Halo appeared over SoCal today. It forms as sunlight is refracted in millions of randomly oriented hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. It appeared in the sky clearly and completely unwavering, as it appears in the photos.
My father had never seen this phenomena before and honestly asked me if it signaled the beginning of the Summer Solstice :I

I thought those were called sundogs. What is the difference?

No, sundogs are bright spots that appear near the sun. There is usually also a rainbow ring, but the ring is not a sundog.
