Extremism and authoritarianism are not mutually exclusive to left or right. Certainly more common on the right. But there is always the threat of it on the left. Decades and decades of performative liberals only seeking power for the sake of power forms the backbone of Democratic leadership. They are the reason why "both sides" arguments were the default until the Republicans stopped pretending to not be Nazis.
