One step at a time

#memes #socially_awesome_awkward_penguin. I still have strong supports in place and an individual therapist. This day just snuck up on me and I don’t feel 100% prepared for it. Edit: thank you all so much for your support. I’m leaning on old friends, family, and even new imgur friends now. Just keep swimming

Hey, we support you. You CAN do this.

Baby steps! And remember, if you trip and fall, you haven’t lost the race. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Just get back up, brush yourself off, and keep on going. You’ve got this. Us random internet strangers have faith in you!

You might. But never give up. I relapsed a couple times but got back up. you’re ready. You got this.

If I can quit smoking (18 years now) you can do this.

Biggest thing to remember is that relapse is ABSOLUTELY PART OF RECOVERY. If it happens pick yourself up, dust yourself off, scream FUCK. And try again.

It would be strange not to be.

You can do it. Dont be afraid to.reach out when you feel overwhelmed.

You must give yourself the power @OP you must choose to be in control of your own actions and reflect that with how you treat yourself in your behavior

Use it. I'm still scared and I've been out of Hab for over a year now. It gets better but it's still always on my mind. Try 90X90

One day at a time, friend.

The fear is good. It means you want to be accountable to yourself. It will help you keep yourself in check. With time the fear will subside to make way for better feelings, perhaps pride of your accomplishments, if it's not already there. Stay strong!

Thanks so much for this comment; it hit hard in a good way.

You got this friend, one day at a time. Clean off any hard stuff 10+ years here. Stay strong.

Have you tried hypnosis yet? I worked really well for me, and it had some surprisingly positive knock-on effects.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus it doesn’t work the way you think it works.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good luck @op. Don't do it alone. Lean on friends and family.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Best wishes! I have been there! I may have some years into my sobriety but we are equal: we both have today to use our learned tools to be clean.

You got this, buds. And, remember. Even if you do, that doesn't mean you failed. It just means you stumbled. You can get up again.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You might, but that’s not the point. The awareness you have now, the introspection. It gets better every day, and if you fall down, you get back up. All “we happy few” are cheering you on!!!

I hope you stay in the now. Accept your past you can’t get a better one. Please don’t future trip it is a path to fear.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's about the number of times you get up

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

keep posting, buddy. Lean hard on support for now. You got this. What's more, you're worth this. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/N82BfQcNqTA

My first month in treatment was sometimes reduced down to 1 minute or 1 hour at a time.
It does get better. Stay the course. Use your tools and your support system. Ask for help . . . a lot!

Idk what you’re recovering from, but here I come shouting from the rooftops about how Naltrexone changed my life re: disordered drinking. Give it a google and consider talking to a doctor.

Get to as many meetings as possible. Use Zoom. You will make it if you put the same effort into it as you did to support that addiction.

Use that terror to remember where you came from. You know what was is not sustainable, just don't forget why you have made changes to your life. It takes time to build up the tools to function without the substances you relied on, but it does happen and it does get easier. Quitting drinking was super hard for me in the first few years, but now, 13 years down the road I almost can't imagine what I was thinking. You got this.

We all have ups and downs. Seriously, this is a long road. Be as present as you can. Ask for help and genuinely take it to heart. You can change. You can improve. Some people, like my father, realized that they had a problem too late. Don't be that guy. Your life can be so much better now. Remember the good. Remember how good it feels to be sober, even when life gets hard, because going backwards makes recovery harder. I Believe In You.

I used to be a tech at an inpatient psych stabilization hospital that included a detox unit. We had to observe patients at all times, so one of us would accompany them to the NA/AA/lifering groups at the hospital. They were also open to non-patients. From the outside, I was always very, very impressed with the work those folks did and the vulnerability they helped each other embrace--no matter where they were at in recovery. And seeing patients come back after discharge to support inpatients 1/2

after them was a masterclass in empathy, support, and ongoing hope and commitment. It wasn't all warm and fuzzy all the time, but I know I never left one of those groups without feeling impressed and a newly-invigorated desire to be as kind, non-judgemental, and aware of my and others boundaries as possible. I'm very grateful for my limited experience with a community of people at all kinds of different points in their journeys, and who had a place to not be afraid to voice fear or shame. 2/3

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All that to say, there's a community out there that I know will help you if needed. And I'm honored to, in a very small, distant way, be allowed to be here a little with you in your fear. Your voice is brave, and seeing it makes bravery in myself (and everywhere) feel a little more real and possible. The road goes ever on and on, and the best we can truly hope for is to walk it with courage. I can only imagine how scary this time is, but you're genuinely killing it.

I'm 15 years sober. I remember that same feeling. Stick to what you learned and trained. MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you fall down again, it's the getting back up that counts. Lean on the shoulders that you can. Good luck. I'm on Imgur fairly often if you need to vent or reset your thinking...send me a DM.

I'm coming up from a year now, LEANNN on people. Never think you are over extending your welcome, trust me they would rather you be annoying than using again
