A reminder that Randy George enlisted in 1982 and made E5 before the Army sent him to West Point in 1984... he has been an infantry officer his entire career and has a CIB with a star on it and a very rare mustard stain on his jump wings (Iraq, 2003 with the 173 PIR)... he has been in over 40 years and Hegseth should not be allowed to shine his jump boots....

E5 is sergeant. It is pretty rare for enlisted to transfer to west point. They usually to a regular green to gold transition. Enlisted going through west point is a pretty big deal. CIB is a combat infantryman badge and a star means they earned a second one. A person can have up to 3 stars. Mustard stain on the jump wings is a bronze star indicating a combat jump. Those are super rare even after Iraq/Afghanistan. So yeah the dude was an infantryman's infantryman.

BTW I once met a guy with three mustard stains. He was a WWII vet. He only had 5 jumps on record (usually the standard for airborne school) he transferred into the unit right before they got sent over from Britain. He had 2 training jumps and the next 3 jumps were all combat jumps.

I went thru Infantry Basic with a drill sergeant who had one for Panama with the 2nd Ranger Battalion, had a Platoon Sergeant in USAREUR who got one in Grenada with 1st Bn...
They are super rare... there are a few famous people with three... most famously CPT Lewis Nixon of the 506th PIR, who did both 101st jumps in WW2 (Neptune/Market Garden) and one with the 17th ABN across the Rhine... some members of the 82nd got four (Husky/Avalanche as well as the previous).
Only 600 jumped into Iraq.
