There's no alternative to capitalism, the problem is when big corporations buy up stuff that's subject to inelastic demand- land, housing, food resources, etc, because it destroys competition and makes everything unaffordable, and the solution feels like antitrust laws to me but that's not a great solution from what I understand.
My dude, if there was no alternative to capitalism it wouldn't be a recent development and it would also be around the entire world. You might be thinking of commerce
I think capitalism has become a loaded term that gets used to imply things it doesn't mean in the stricter sense I'm using it in. As long as there's private property that you get in exchange for money, I don't see a way around there being what we call capitalism. But this is semantics I guess, and I stand by my point about the hoarding of resources that are subject to inelastic demand. So basically I think the only viable system for a giant economy like US is capitalism but with better rules.
You know, this isn’t 100% congruent with my opinion, but I think it’s a completely reasonable perspective and I don’t entirely understand why it’s getting the bad button presses. I know it doesn’t matter in the ego sense (usersub life), but I am sincerely curious what issue people are having with this take.
For one thing, comment sections can be so toxic that people assume the worst, and in this case probably assume my comment is some sort of bootlicker propaganda. And then someone else comes along and sees the downvote and make a snap judgment based on that alone.
I don't have a real opinion on the subject of capitalism though, I treat imgur like a lab for half baked ideas so that I can learn from the replies. Probably most people on here are better informed than I am on practically everything.
