I'm an American living in central Japan, and when I went to the train station this morning I was surprised to see a fun local festival with several 'itasha' anime cars.
Itasha are the epitomy of otaku culture. Written 痛車 which means "painful car" although it phonetically sounds like "Italian car," it's what you drive when you love anime but give zero fucks about what people think.
This is Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, about the best anime you could watch in 2026. It's about an immortal elf and all the non-immortal characters she adventures with, and how she deals with the reality that everyone she knows is going to die while she keeps living forever,
A car dedicated to Nino from Quintessential Quintuplets, the story of a guy who gets a harem of five identical twin sisters. It was quite good.
Shisato from Lycoris Recoil, a fun anime about two girls who shoot lots of guns. The creators of the anime got bullied online by fans who wanted the implied lesbian relationship between the two main characters to be more overt, which I wasn't a fan of.
Rinami from one of the Idolmaster idol series. The problem with modern anime is, any genre that gets popular will get over-made until fans are sick of the genre. Happened with idols, is happening with isekai...
The vent had some cosplayers, too.

Love that Lycoris Recoil wrap! Stuff like this makes me want to move back to Japan so bad!

And I agree, Lycoreco was so good *because* it wasn’t bogged down by some annoying will-they/won’t-they yuri drama, just the right amount of tension bubbling below the surface. Sometimes less is more. (Or in this case, should I say less is moe? Ba-dum-tss!)

Frieren isn't immortal. Elves just live very long lives compared to other races in that anime. She says several times that her 10 year adventure with the group that defeated the Demon King was 1/100th of her life.
