These tourists got a special treat when they walked out on the dock at the place they were staying on the intracoastal waterway. You never know where you're going to see a manatee in Florida. From March through November they are in every bay, bayou, the intracoastal waterway, the Gulf and the Atlantic ocean. They're also in many of the rivers, creeks and springs.

All of the pics and videos I post are taken by me. For more OC nature vids check my profile or look for See Through Canoe Company on YouTube, BlueSky, FB & other social media sites.

Useless fact, manatees don't like pork chops.

Holy fuck. They’re huge. I didn’t know they’re that big.

Looks like I'm gonna see them in every bay, bayou, the intracoastal waterway, the Gulf and the Atlantic ocean, at least from March through November.

I had a good memory fishing with my brother on a pier in Florida, and seeing the silhouettes of a school of sting/manta rays. They never surfaced, but they were each 2-3 meters wide and looked like mysterious giants to us kids.

They flock to spring fed rivers in the winter because it's warmer than the ocean.

“You never know where you’re going to see a manatee in Florida.”

So true! I saw a manatee drinkin’ a piña colada at Trader Vic’s. And its hair was perfect.

I've been to a dock in Florida near a power plant that is always full of manatees (I think they like the warm water from the plant or something - don't quote me). They are majestic creatures. Love them.

Yea, during the winter they come up to the warmer water from the power plant discharges. I know there's one on the east side of Tampa Bay that we took the kids to years ago, and one or two up the west coast north of Tampa.

Is that mom above average size? She looks gigantic compared to ones in other vids you've posted.

Right? Holy shit. I thought that was a whale at first.

Yes, she's a little bigger than average. Probably a solid 13-14 feet.

Oh the huge-manatee!

I came here looking for this. Not disappointed.

I didn't think they got that big, so, wow.

It’s almost like it’s a habitat for huge manatees

Sea potato.

Floatato?

My first thought wasn't potato. I wondered how many flushes it took

in all fairness baby manatees are typically very dark, almost black. And they're all wrinkly when they're born too. If they were smaller they would look almost exactly like a poo.

Check them out while you can before they're poisoned off in the name of capitalism. If you live in Florida around the Indian River Lagoon please take a look at this petition to stop Bezos from dumping his pet project's waste. Thank you. https://www.change.org/p/stop-blue-origin-from-dumping-wastewater-into-indian-river-lagoon

There are SO many other reasons for the pollution issue than Bezos. Putting the blame on one rich guy or company won't help much. Our states pollution problems are due to a variety of issues, not just one person or company. Fertilizer and pesticide run off from commercial farms and residential properties. Outdated city and county leaky sewage systems. Outdated and leaking residential septic systems. Crap washing off the streets into the water every time it rains. Pollutants from other states...

I agree, but how do we stop it? Just throw up our hands and say, "Oh well!" or do we try to help by spreading awareness and give people a way to get involved? Bezos isn't alone but if anyone can afford to find a better way I think he can and it's a start. Thank you for your posts I always enjoy your videos.

You know, as I sit here and think about how much impact just 1 billionaire could have, it occurs to me that any one of these billionaires could become one of the most loved people in the world instead of just being one of the financially richest if they just used 3/4 of their money towards protecting the environment and financially elevating the poorest 5% in the world. I mean, if you gave away so much of your wealth that you "only" had a billion $ left, you would still be on easy street.

Maybe I'm being cynical but I think the reason they don't is because they have more power when most of us are poor and desperate.

There are no easy solutions for sure, but I think it's important that we all accept some responsibility and don't just point the finger at one rich guy when that rich guy is only part of the problem. People need to know they can help by simply fixing their septic system, not pressure treating their houses and driveways with chemicals, not using so much pesticide and fertilizer, wash cars at a carwash instead of at home so the dirty water is recycled instead of going into our water.... ty :-)

I've never understood why farmers pay so much money for fertilizer just to watch most of it wash away. It would be expensive to dig a ditch to collect it and send it to a cistern or filter, but how much money and coastal habitat would be saved if they could re use it.
