One of those is not like the others. Catchy song though haha.

I wish I knew what this song was about. I assume its about how great it is to be a seal.

How he is super fat and has to hop around on his belly. Slapping it and such. Someone loosely translated it in another thread maybe in an find it

Ya i figured the last 1-2 lines were about being fat and squishy.

He wouldn't be that old if it wasn't for the aquarium

Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life is part of the NE aquarium (which is nonprofit) where they’re supporting research and conservation.

I agree, but also without zoos, some species would be extinct now.

When kept zoos are a necessary "evil" for preservation and education. If the public had no way of interacting/observing animals they wouldn't care/know about them.

But yes, zoos are pretty sad.

Preservation and eduction as a defense? Seals aren’t an endangered special, and this is 2026, we can have VR zoos for education.

An exception: If this was a rescue of a seal that would have otherwise died due to injury or abandonment, then yes for rescue habitats.

There are animals dying in the wild right now from some injury they suffered. That is life. We humans do not need to save them by sticking them in concrete boxes. There are humans dying from injuries right now, should we put them in jail to save them?

Do what you can with what you have. Better than doing nothing. And these refuges also support research and other conservation efforts to address the larger picture.

Consider this post is about the animal having such mental distress that the zookeepers/slaveholders (tomato/tomato) have to proactively do things to keep the animal happy because, as the video admits, they know how captivity is harmful for the animals mind. If the beast is that unhappy, perhaps it should be free and humans should put themselves second to the seal’s happiness.

The video didnt say anything about mental distress, just that he was an old boy and enrichment is good for him. And I dont see humans working in a rescue / habitat putting themselves first. But im not gonna discount your read on this, its possible im not seeing the full picture. My ex was deeply involved with rescues as a vet so my perspective mostly comes from her stories.
