I've never posted anything for cake-day before, and I almost didn't today because I'm supposed to be studying, but I love science gifs. Wish I had more time to spend on this post and to find/make some more cools ones for you guys, but here's an x-ray of a person swallowing anyway.

If that wasn't hardcore enough for you, here's how a sideshow trick works

Phagocyte with filopodia

White blood cells identifying, recruiting, and attacking a parasitic worm.

Cellular division. The red circles are the uncondensed genetic material in the nuclei of the cells, which are "balled up" into the chromosomes. You can see they line up along the plate in the middle before separating into new cells and dissolving into the newly formed nuclei

Same again, different imaging technique. I believe in these images they stained for microtubules, the dynamic skeletons of cells that pull the chromosomes apart.

This is my favorite. JUST the GROWING microtubules are stained. You see diagrams and pictures in a book and it's easy to forget how it must look when it's alive

The famous kinesin protein

Anyone studying for exams, remember to take a breath!

Am I the only one who feels uncomfortable knowing what goes on in my body?

Fun fact, there's an X-RAY video of a female giving oral sex to a Male named Tucker Max, pretty interesting

I was expecting the xray of the blow job.

The first one is of a person swallowing barium not water. Sometimes we put it in bums too! -xray tech

The walking protein freaked me out the first time I saw it. Still does. It has such a jaunty walk cycle while towing a huge ball.

That's a super detailed image of the kinesin. I almost thought it was a dynein until I noticed the intertwined helices.

I guess some people will be disappointed expecting other kind of science...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately I'm not in that field

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get you, these are way cooler...

First one is a modified barium swallow study. Had to do a bunch of those in grad school. Really cool.

Does anyone have that one where the brain lights because they die in the middle of an MRI?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kinesin looks like me walking down the road frying on mushrooms

What does the kinesin protein do? He seems like a happy chap ☺

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He goes for chipper strolls up microtubules

So the hook thing.. What medical reason is required to put a hook in your face?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

Just in case you were serious, the description says it's a side show act. Not medical.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The caption says It's explaining a sideshow trick. Shows the hook enter the nasal cavity turn around in the naso/oropharynx, & out the mouth

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's a fiberscope.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

No it's not

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're right. I must have imagined it moving slightly. My bad.
