I think there's an important point that's being missed. Yes, so many conservative boogeymen are outrage-generators that distract from real issues.
But some of them? The conservatives truly believe they're fighting a necessary battle.
They know they had to pretend gay marriage was a problem. The sky wasn't gonna fall. But the transes are actual, clear and obvious threats to "real women" in their view. Science (aka grade-school biology) "proves" it, so they mustn't allow it to continue.
Conservatives haven't been on the right side of history -ever- and they haven't ever had any good idea. Not a one I can think of. If they had their way we'd still be living in fucking caves.
The worst part is the GOP just fires up haters to create a smokescreen for their drive to expand economic inequality. Distraction. The billionaires don't care about these issues, they care about creating a hereditary kleptocracy where there once was a democracy. These petty politicians are just tools.
I really fucking like that person. Finally saying what needs to be said. However words are no longer enough. They dont care, this is about power to them. Thats all they want and fear is a great motivator. Always has been.
This. 1% minority is the scapegoat because they want a group small enough to not push back. Meanwhile they brainwash a majority of people to move the needle in their favor so they can protect the 1% they actually care about, the ultra rich and those in power.
It's about the money. As long as they can rile up the voters on some issue, they can enrich themselves without oversight. That's all it is and ever was. They don't care about God, trans people, black people or any voter. It's just about the money.
I want to agree with you, but that would be ignoring the fact the Daughters of the Confederacy (aka Klan for Women) fought long and hard to coerce school board to ban textbooks that mentioned the Confederacy in a negative light, or talked accurately about the horros of slavery. They constructed the Lost Cause narrative that most kids learn today about the civil war being about State's rights. They care how they look, but they know they can change it later too.

Wrong side of history? They're still convinced that they were on the right side and everyone else is on the wrong side.

They think history is on their side ... because they know nothing of our history
Sebastopol140
They don't get tired of this, because that's how they get votes from the easily riled up imbeciles, and that's how they stay in power.

Don't forget raking in gobs of cash from corporate donors to create favorable laws for those corporations to generate even more profit!

First off, he's spot on, absolutely no notes.
Secondly, unfortunately the right cannot be cajoled into decency by a West Wing level monologue.

They will never be tired. They hate the right side of history. That’s why they want it rewritten and not told.
dataengineer
They truely don't care that history looks at them poorly, but that's because none of them read history books anyways.
StarmineRendezvous
I won't claim to read history books either but I sure as hell learned the important bits over my life decent enough to not fall for it.
LitterBoxKing
That's why they want to control the curriculum so badly, so that nothing they've done can be placed in a negative light.

They'll play the switcharoo again like they did when the conservatives hated black people this much.
JessicaShadowless
Interesting you use the past tense. But yes.
Clockworkdancerobot
But yeah. remember that Turning Point (Charlie Kirk) paid Candice Owens to deny this history.
Clockworkdancerobot
I guess I should have clarified, "Openly".
