Weight classes are one of those unavoidable problems with competitive martial arts. Of course they are necessary for even a semblance of fair competition, but especially youth weight classes are so predisposing towards body issues, it's almost pre-programmed. Not that other sports don't have it too, cycling and (rhythmic) gymnastics come to mind as just two prominent examples. If you're lucky, the youth coach is aware of the issue and can mitigate it. If not... Man, it can be rough.
