the internet has always been like that. the only difference is that people are becoming more and more willing to volunteer their personal information online and make themselves easier to exploit.
Didn't even read but to answer the first question: yes, most people, and they've been rather vocal about it, so I shan't read the rest. Thanks for your attention to the matter!
Cyberpunk 2077 came out in 2020. In 2077 the world lives in fear of maliciously created rogue AI's that have been captured behind a barrier called "The Blackwall", itself a friendly AI, that is all that protects the internet and everything connected to it from being destroyed.
And people wonder why the universities don't want the Internet 2 to be accessible by the public... You haven't heard of the Internet 2? It's a much faster internet with very little on it. Just universities, the military, and their projects. It's like how the Internet was in the 1980s, only more sophisticated.
When was that? When the server was inundated with GTA screenshots and revenge pr0n? When there were constant data leaks? When the mods sucked up to 'politics bad' users gibbering and getting million-point users banned after seeing the reflections of their own actions? Or was it simply before Trump?
Surely a 2020 account like yourself has far more knowledge than I about 'the good times' before political assholes, right?

... arent universities themselves public?
TheMoonBnuuy
in America? Surely you jest.

Are you calling Cthulu a minor irritation spambot?
MinisterCross
IIRC he is only a priest of greater gods, even if the mountain stumbles and greasily slides into the ocean.
DanielAsparagus
That’s horrifying.

Fuck I feel this. Imgur was so nice before the political assholes overran it.

pre 2016 at a minimum. even back then people were talking about the good old days

2nd account. The first one was older.
MinisterCross
Yeah that's a given. Imgur has always had political assholes even at its apex, it was 'ruined' when the website sold itself.
TheUnstoppableWampas
agreed, the politics problem came in waves and got worse over the years, but the sale really did fuck things.

And now I'm being a bit of an ass, my bad. :)
