Just an update on progress for those interested in our broke ass home build.
After the last post about how we finally got the footing trenches poured but had to complete then in an unexpected rainstorm. The surface run off buggered some of our levels on the concrete footings. Fortunately my mate, Kev the Blockie is an experienced, awesome block layer and while it was fiddly and time consuming, he cut slivers of blocks to correct the levels back to what was required.
This allowed the ground floor slab to be poured into the block as formwork hiding the edge of the slab from external sight.
The slab was poured and allowed to cure for the next 4 weeks.
Now, we're ready to start laying the block walls that will support the house.

Setting the slab levels....

Back breaking tedious and absolutely necessary....

We even had time to finish painting the upper reaches of our tree..... thanks to my girls Christmas gift of a EWP for a day or two.

Do you not have termites?

Not really. The house will be termi-meshed and treated but only ground felled timber gets borers. Up right trees tend to be safe

A golf course where you get to milk the employees!

Ha.....don't say that. It makes it sound like a Trump enterprise.

Bega Valley, far south Coast of NSW. It's the centre of our dairy herds that make Bega Cheese

Why did you paint the tree?

I had always promised my girls since they first saw one when little, that when we moved to the country, we would paint a tree of our own.
