Used to live there. Never had a someone walk around apologising but they do give you the fun lateness card and look at you in sorry

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Lived in Japan 3 years now. Trains get delayed at least once a week. I have recieved 0 apologies.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Each station in japan has their own different announcement song. In cities they're chimes but in the countryside they're like full songs

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

*Laughs in Greek*

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In NYC they kick you in the nuts and tell you it wasn’t their fault.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We should learn from Japan.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lies. You can get the slip if you complain, but the conductor will definitely not walk to everyone to apologize.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Norwegian trains ride on asphalt and have uncomfortable seats.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely a lie. Been there, on late ttrain. It was jumper, so pretty sad, but this is just bullshit.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

not true

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nonsense lol. This doesn't happen on the regular. I've been on late trains a lot in Japan and at most we heard a mic apology.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Trains being late are also not as rare as you would think. They even prepare stubs for proof of it being late, which you can show at work.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Here in Ottawa, the train is over a year late and nobody gives s fuck.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All I read was people's bosses are wound so tight, they don't believe their employees when they say they were delayed.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They don't do this. They just hand you a slip at the exit.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So glad form home 90%. At Microsoft if you were late once as a temp you were gone.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don’t believe you.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Be nice if we even had decent options in the fucking USA.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ladies and gentlemen sorry we are 2 minutes late today. Please remain seated while the driver apologises to all 250 of you individually.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not the driver.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This just sucks more than anything. It shows how terrible traditional work culture is in Japan.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Not necessarily. A delay of a few minutes can be the difference between missing your transfer or not, which could be a bigger delay.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah that's true, but usually your employer would excuse that (taking your word for it) without giving you any trouble

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This isn’t true (anymore). Not once has this happened on my train because it would just make the train even more late.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The station will however effectively issue late notes for you to take to work so you don’t get in trouble since it is rare to be late

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll be honest. I'd hate to live in such a society...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the info on the post here seems to be wrong.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That also makes it seem like they are SUPER strict about being on time, which sounds stressful as hell

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

More like a lifestyle. It's stressful for someone who doesn't live the life

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Tell that to all the people dying from overwork there. It's a problem so common that they have a word for it, karoshi.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If as a society, they've created a highly punctual system, it doesn't need to be stressful. My emphasis wasn't on work overload

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Dutch trains can learn from this.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would like to see FR. Running like that costs tons of money. Ticket sales won't cut it .. my experiece

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude, Dutch trains are great. In my experience we have some of the best services around in the world. And IIRC we actually ranked best 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

After japan in a few ways. Though we do definitely have some issues, its not that bad.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dutch Railway has improved greatly over the past years. 10 years ago a train on time wasn't common

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And in the US the lateness slip wouldn't be worth crap. Late is late and it's the workers responsibility to be on time.

6 years ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 13

and when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, when i lived in NYC, a lot of jobs accepted 'announced subway lateness' on their website as an acceptable reason for being late.

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Well there probably isn't a Train going from Tokyo to Los Angeles, is there?

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Not for the likes of you.

v

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That would be pretty awesome

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not yet there isnt

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm in the US and I'm late almost every day, no one cares

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Every IT job i've had has been like this, come in late leave early it's all the same because you're anchored to your phone 28/7

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Depends on the job. My job you have a 30 minute window to get in before a meeting.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

One of my old jobs if you weren't 10 minutes early that's super bad, as I helped open a restaurant.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"Early is on time, on time is late"- some Chef probably

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, basically.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't the apologies make you even later?

6 years ago | Likes 177 Dislikes 23

I never witnessed an apology like that, but have received late slips

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The person actually driving the train presumably doesn't go out there, so the train keeps moving with its usual pace.

6 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

@CaspianQuix

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You think they stop the train to apologise ?

6 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 4

Come on, dude.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Thats what I would think too. Don't apologize. Just don't be late next time.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 18

Kinda get what u mean, they start the apologies cuz the train left the station late, rolling apology

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's ok, they don't actually do this. They just apologize over the intercom. Been living in Japan for the past 9years.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol yes, this is what 90% of the speakers in NYC sound like. Unless you are lucky and get on a newer train.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usually the sound was angry or totally flegmatic. Although I've only been in NY once.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Speaker?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The worst I've had recently, the train home suddenly announced that everyone had to off board at the next station as the train was heading

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

back north despite being listed as heading to it normal direction... for both trains I took that day.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I swear I have never once understood a word said on the PA for any mass transit in the U.S.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sitting here giggling my ass off hearing this in my head and I've never been to NYC

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

On a bus once, can confirm. We stopped the bus mid-street because some kid was getting ganged up on by a bunch of older kids. Dropped(1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

him off at the police station because he told his mom to pick him up there.

Went and visited my now GF for the first time in NYC, were on the train a lot, couldn't understand shit. Thank God for Google Maps!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The MTA in NYC came from merging 4 separate transit companies. That partially explains the mess

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh, I did not know that!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coming from Eastern Europe, we had clearly pre-recorded stop announcements. I was super surprised why the US let's the driver do the talking

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Just depends. Light rail is all pre recorded and the bus is a mix I think. Haven’t taken it in a while though.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

M-may i ask which country are you from?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I lived in Armenia, Russia, and the Czech Republic :)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People in the US prefer the cold and emotionless voice of another live human over a warm and personable recording.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Well it's not like they could afford Richard Kiley. Think of the expense.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Morgan Freeman or nothing...actually, James Earl Jones would also be acceptable.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instead we'd end up with John DiMaggio doing bender lol.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol. It's more about the quality of the audio than the emotionality. You can barely hear what the driver or the conductor is saying

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In UK, train is not considered late if it's below 5 minutes

6 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

This is one of my pet peeves!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

London, the robot announcer says "We're SORRY that the FIVE O'CLOCK service to LONDON BRIDGE is cancelled, we APOLOGISE", not even a person.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

in the US is considered it's on schedule as long as it shows up the same day

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Varies by line. South Western? 15 minutes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also in the UK, if a train gets late enough, it's cheaper (in fines/etc) to cancel the service than run it.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yes! So strange ?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also in the UK, if you want to buy tickets for a train trip to London and you live in the North, you are forced to sell a kidney.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I've never had to sell a kidney for DON to KGX..

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hear that if the train is over 15 minutes late the conductor commits harikari by disemboweling himself on the train platform.

6 years ago | Likes 488 Dislikes 22

6 years ago | Likes 379 Dislikes 33

Imagine living in a society where you can get a note from your traffic jam.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its more due to the fact the event is so rare, that if you go to work and claim the train was late, people won't believe you.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You mean an hourly job in America?

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

You need a note because the tardiness is so rare. It’s so they believe you. Also, in my experience, the conductors didn’t walk applogize

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Would actually just make you more late, wouldn’t it?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had train conductors in GER ask me if I wanted a note for my university class when the train was running late. Appreciated it, but said no

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been fired for getting into traffic jams twice in a row. Accidents ahead of me both times. "Just come in an hour early every day."

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I cross train tracks 3 times on my way to work, and am usually 30-40 min early, and on time when the (rare) train comes.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That advise should be taken as a suggestion to find a different employer.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yeeeep

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Get a note, not necessarily need

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You attach them to your time card at work and it doesn’t count against you as a late.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not sure if you really need one, but it's offered as a courtesy.

my job if your late (2 points) 8 times in a year by over 5 min (sooner if your sick and have to call out b.c 3 points) your fired

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I actually think that's a good thing. If you're late that often I think it says a lot about the person. Are you saying it's a negative?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 17

I try to be green and take the train to work, sometimes shit happens and the train is late or cancelled. Do I deserve to be fired for that?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you're employer has the policy op has then yes. I'm glad you're trying to be green but I'm assuming you have a means to get there on time

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Ha, okay. Luckily for me, my employer is a lot more understanding. The traffic is so bad where I live that while it's marginally better (1)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

well think about it lets say your sick 3 times that year 9 points then late another 3 lets say from traffic b.c texas drivers suck, fired.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

same if you have to leave early for any kind of emergency, 2 points.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh and i work with food so i can either tough it out and make customers and co workers sick or stay at home.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i have 140 hours of paid sick time that i dont even feel safe using b.c i could get fired anyways

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends why you are late. It seems in his case no matter what you would be fucked. I mean I was late once because my brakes blew out on my

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Way in.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes I'd assume that's why 8 times, the chances are having car problems 8 times in a year sounds very unlikely. Id expect being late that 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Often would be due to poor planning, laziness, or lack of respect for showing up on time.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Lol my car is in the shop every other month man. Some people are to poor to get a new car, I put myself through college debt free so I was

6 years ago | Likes 170 Dislikes 4

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a shit job for a reason. Some companies can exist with a high turnover model, avoid working there if at all possible.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not only US though. Like Call Center & co which requires you to be there at 8. you can‘t just come in everyday at 08:05. In germany you can

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Request such confirmation papers. Just call, name bus+time & e-mail adress

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
