Volvo also did another unusual thing for the station wagon, they got the same doors as on the sedan. But the wagons got a straight roof and the sedans a sloped roof, so they just added a little filler piece. Looks a bit odd.
My friend had a one door VW rabbit... it was a custom modification by a NYC taxi cab that took off the passenger door after his roommate opened it without looking... only one of them was made because the prototype was too drafty.
That story doesn't make any sense either. Would be easier and much, much cheaper to just make one side permanently locked by disabling the mechanism. And there would be evidence if these were officially ordered for the Swedish police. And the Swedish police never used them.
Hmmm... a longer door on the driver side makes sense. Hyundai did that with the Veloster. But yeah. My first instinct was that it was a one off done by some guy.
