I doubt it helps but in some debates over the pros and cons of capitalism the US is an example I use quite often for 'late stage capitalism'. Those debates don't even occur this much anymore.

Occasionally, I remind people that the term late stage capitalism was coined by a German witnessing the tumultuous years just after WW1. The far-left has been throwing around this term for a long time, every new generation that picks it up expecting the coming downfall of the system that has never come, thinking that they are experiencing its dying breaths under the weight of its numerous problems. My main issue with this is that it implies an inevitability that comes off as wishful thinking.
