First black cat was adopted from the shelter. The second one walked in off the street, shiny and happy and purring, on halloween. Walked right in like he owned the place. I like him quite a bit since apparently I'm his person and he attacks the kids back when they are mean to him.

Interesting, my experience has been the opposite. My older cats are a lot more mellow and happy now than when they were kittens.
