Ok... Just gonna say it... As a 40 yr old... Stretch... Warm up properly and don't forget that you are not 20 anymore. Have fun though!

As my grandpa used to say: "getting old is a shitshow, but the alternative is worse"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. Warm up....and get some Traumeel cream from Whole Foods, mix it 2:3 with unscented body lotion and apply it after a hot shower after.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And practice good form! I know too many people who have seriously injured themselves due to bad form

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Proper form is ESSENTIAL. If you can't do that last rep with proper form, you're done! Put down the weights!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Go home and relax, and enjoy your still-functioning joints!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 35 and thought I was 20. It's all bad. I should've stretched. Pray for me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No praying. Go see your doctor and see if you can be rebuilt. $6M isn't so much these days!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'm 20 and stiff as a fencepost

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's what she said?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

41 year old here. Nothing's changed with those rules. That is all.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Another level 40 here, I still love lifting, stay injury free and focus when your training. Stretch after to help reduce DOMS and injuries.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Agreed I still do moderate weight training but most of my efforts these days are with Yoga and cardio.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll be the only guy at the nursing home who can bend over and touch his toes. Those silver foxes are gonna be all up in my biddness

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

agreed! its funny how many people are 40'sh now!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't WANT to be 40... I want to be 20 again, damnit!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think i am 20 when i go out and get drunk! then i age another year to recover from the hangover!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As I get older I feel like I can do the same things I did when I was younger, I just grunt more.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My knees laugh at those thoughts. B-(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These kinds of comments pissed me off when I got back into the gym 2 years ago. 1 bulged disc in my back later and I believe!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope you are ok now. You got to be so very careful with your back!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Steroid injections, physical therapy and lot of patience help to get better. Took me 4 years. And I'm still not 100%

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stretching actually has no effect on flexibility or injury prevention. bodybuilding.com/fun/pre-exercise-stretching-and-injuries.htm

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

Yeah. I'm going to ignore that and stick to what my physiotherapist wife says instead. But thank you anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

That's only talking about static stretching alone. 5 min jog, 10 min static, 10 min dynamic, exercise.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It specifically states that warmups are very helpful while stretching alone is not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know how they can make that claim. Unless they have never done a moderate or intense workout past the age of 18.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Warming up is good. Stretching after is good. Stretching before does nothing. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15076777

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Before exercising you should do dynamic stretching. Afterwards you should static stretch. Stop spreading bullshit.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You just linked me an article that said there was no evidence to show either side.
