One of my personal life goals is to go to Medieval Times. There's only one in Canada (Toronto), so the next time I'm there with some friends and some money, we will most definitely be going there.
When I was a kid, our red night died and we thought if kept cheering for him he would come back like Tinker Bell. A member of the staff came over and told us to quiet down. He wasn’t coming back.
Why? Every time I've gone it was packed full but that just adds to the atmosphere. They segment the crowd into different colored sections that are supposed to root for the knight who wears the color of their section, the bigger the crowd the more fun that part of the show is.
Last time I went with some friends, including an ex-girlfriend that had never been to one before, we got the green knight, who I think is always "the bad guy" and we yelled and hooted and cheered - and he won! It was awesome!
had a coworker with a MT obsession. Lots of pics on his desk of him & wife on his bday. Pic #1 both all smiles. Each pic after that, he's still all smiles but the wife less so. Next to last pic, she just looks super pissed off. Last pic... just him, all smiles. Asked about her, and he was like "yeah she died, but I went on my BD anyway"
The movement is intentional, in sync with the horse so you don't get bounced off (and it tires out the horse less). Racehorse jockeys stand with their butt hovering above the saddle to avoid this and tire the horse even less so.
Teen girl thinks mediaval times will be stupid. Suddenly she finds out she's sitting in a sexy knights section and he throws her a flower. Suddenly going to see hot guys beat each other up isn't so bad. Only thjng missing would be if they bought her a tiara instead of the paper crown. Then she could be a real princess
One of those subject-expert videos on YouTube had a medieval historian rate Medieval Times; they basically said "This is full of historical inaccuracies, but people from back then would have absolutely LOVED it, because it perfectly captures their love of pageantry, storytelling, drama, and show."
I've been: It was corny as hell, and I had a blast. 10/10, no notes.
Once I went to Medieval times with a group of rowdy friends and we cheered hard for our knight. After the show, he told us he got to do a new fight he'd never done and didn't "die" as early as he usually did because of how loud we were. He was SO STOKED about it too
I went to one in Vegas with my friends. We were kind of disappointed to be in Frances section until our knight did a back flip into the arena. We cheered our hearts out for him and booed his opponents with all we had. He won that night and came and find us before we left to get a photo. It was awesome
Welp new goal unlocked. Never been to one of these, but if I get to i intend to make it a memorable night for others. Hopefully in the good way. No promises
Idk why but my mind automatically defaulted to that one part of Family Guy where Peter goes around peddling butt scratchers. "BUTT SCRATCHAH! BUTT SCRATCHAH?"
At our local Ren Fair every year, there's a knight at the jousting show who has gorgeous looong red hair, and all the lesbians (including my kid) go absolutely ape shit over her, lol.
Why? It probably gets ridden hard every night, just really pounding away for hours, up and down, back and forth, and then maybe, if it get really wet, a stiff rub down and a towel
Ever since I was young, I always said the full name, in a theatrical voice: "Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament". Those commercials left an indelible mark.
I've only been once but it was everything I wanted it to be, right down to eating with your hands. And the food was amazing! The fights were great, cheering for your knight was great, there was a falcon that did laps around the crowd, we all loved it. There isn't one within 12 hours from here or I'd be going on the regs. Just enough so I wouldn't tire of it.
Dollywood is on my bucket list so that might be a fun way to round out the day. Or do on a different day because if I pay admission to a theme park I'm there the whole day.

That place is quite empty. Although, if all seats were full, it'd be a nightmare place.

Did you know that the performers will challenge you to a duel by fisticuffs if you're drunk enough and heckle them enough?
PlausibleLies
Yeah but if you win you're going to jail.
DukePhelan
If that guy is rocking metal armor complete with gauntlets and you still win, you're gonna work for it.

PSA: that is a joke, performing is hard and you should never heckle someone doing any kind of performance

You don't have to regret it. They are still in business.

In Pigeon Forge near Dollywood, they also have two awesome dinner shows. Pirates Voyage and Stampede (used to be called dixie stampede)

Dollywood is on my bucket list so that might be a fun way to round out the day. Or do on a different day because if I pay admission to a theme park I'm there the whole day.

It's by far my favorite theme park experience and I love Disney World.

We do Disney and/or Universal every couple years. Next year is Disney Land because I've never been so Dollywood is a tentative for 2029 or so (not rich enough to go every year unfortunately). I've heard a lot of good things about it.
