yeah

When they are propperly set up, the door closes because of gravity. Have been designed to do that since the 1960's.

And how is my phone supposed to close the fridge door? Fucking idiots!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what if i told you you can adjust the feet of most fridges, so you can tilt them so the door wants to close on its own.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or how about you all just buy a normal fridge that isn't going to potentially spy on you, and remember to close the door

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's smart enough to predict the inevitable lawsuit when someone is stupid and gets their dick crushed in the door.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Of all the things to wasre money on, a smart fridge? So fucking pretentious

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Why the hell do I wanna spend that much money on a fridge??? It doesn’t keep food any colder than a cheap one. That’s it’s job. Egads.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The last several models (including this) lack a self defrost and the motor freezes up repeatedly. $600 or a day to take it apart.

My fridge closes itself. The trick? Have one leg only sliiiightly higher than the other

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So it's another expensive machine that goes, "PING!"

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I mean screen doors are low tech.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Sending notifications to your phone over the net is probably great for people who open their fridge when they're not home.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Samsung Program: it’s complicated

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually have this fridge and love this feature

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Do you need an app for it to ping you?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fridge has an app for your phone , I mostly use it to upload photos to it for the screensaver

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Back in the olden days, people would adjust the feet to make the fridge door auto-close by gravity.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

TIL, that is actually genius

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do people actually leave their fridge doors open often enough that this is a needed feature?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Adjust the feet under them right and they close by themselves.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If somethings in the way it would break something

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just make it beep when it's left open..

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

i always turn that off since it's annoying while loading or cleaning the fridge

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But, but... “Smart“, IoT, Fridge as a Service, Cold 4.0...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mine doesn’t ping my phone but it still makes a noise if it’s left open too long.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Mine just yells at me whenever I am trying to clean it out. Or when I’m trying to decide what to eat.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It sounds like dad and says "Who the hell left the damn fridge open?!"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But what if you somehow open your fridge when you're not home? Like with a really long string?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because a sensor is less prone to error than moving parts

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If only their damn ice makers would stop freezing up and start working again.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mini vans have had doors which can basically close themselves since the 90s. How have we not applied the same technology to fridges?

6 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 2

what a waste of money, who the fuck is leaving fridge doors open?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A van isn't airtight, a fridge is. If a pet hops in the van it'll be fine, if it hops in the fridge it will do.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Different mechanisms to make a sliding door close vs a door like is on a fridge for one. For another no real practical reason for anything

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

other than a reminder. Plus it'd add to the cost of a fridge for no real reason and make them heavier.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdKgJQQC7Pw Smart sink faucet. People still need to get the bowl out and place it on the floor. (1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think samsung has a clothes washer that you can start remotely even though people still need to fill it in person. Just push the button.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I could see that serving a purpose with the dryer, especially if you’re doing a load of towels.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's the top drawer for?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wine.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Chill drawer (meats, cheeses, fresh fish, etc)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

anything you want easy access to, or just a separate temp zone

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Second separate cooling zone, you can have 3 different temperatures for the fridge (Top, mid, freezer)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Frozen pizza and a six pack lying down

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

For those not Aware, Samsung admitted their Smart t.v.s are watching you watch it, and can hear everything you say in front of it...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How many people leave the fridge door open to need this?!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

people with kids

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More than you'd imagine. They give the door a push and walk away, assuming it shut.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, so laziness. Got it.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But why the phone notification instead of a beep? In case you open your fridge when you're not home?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People have learned to ignore what's in front of them and only respond to their phone.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The answer is the difference between the energy to power a circuit and the energy to mechanically close the door. I just close mine.

6 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 7

OMG. Fridges use a non trivial amount of power to do what they do all fucking day. And the few Watts needed to close a door is too much?!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't need to even use an electrical mechanism, just a spring or something

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Nobody wants a fridge door that closes every time you open it

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

More like "this thing is already connected to the internet for other reasons and can do this for free" vs "Let's design a new component."

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure a fucking refrigerator has the energy capacity to close a door....

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who do you think you are!? A refrigeratologist!?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The real answer is they couldn't find a part unreliable enough to match Samsung's vision of making craptastic refrigerators.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They make self closing kitchen drawers. With zero power

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

When I was 12 my friend's dad had a spring under the garage refrigerator connected to the door. Closed it automatically all the time.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a physicist: The power comes from your arm when you pull it out. This applies to fapping too.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I assume he meant electrical power instead of work

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A drawer is on tracks, so it's much easier to implement some passive means of retraction (springs, gravity..) Fridge doors are heavier too.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*coughmagnetscough*

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Soft close drawers and cabinets are a thing. I don't like them, but they're a thing

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of the fridges I've seen will close if you let the door go, so if it's open it's probably jammed on something anyway

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You calling those drawers weak bro?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably to avoid lawsuits against it self closing your infant into the fridge

6 years ago | Likes 327 Dislikes 1

The dangers of carrot sticks and chill.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

THE REAL REASON:sometimes things can get in the way, like a tray of lasagna. And Samsung aint about to make doors that can break a childs arm

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh that.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But something that ridiculous only has to be thought about for the US market.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Remember that Punky Brewster episode?? Jesus Fucking Christ, I'm old.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember the show and the cartoon

Technological advancement is constantly hindered by people who don't look after their kids and their suddenly very rich lawyers.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How about pinging your mobile if you leave the baby in the fridge?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe don't put your infant in the fridge in the first place...

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Don't tell me how to live my life.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dont underestimate how stupid people can be

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How else would I keep them fresh?

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Drying or fermentation are alternative ways to preserve your offspring.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't forget heavy salting v

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But if I close in the infant in there myself, it counts as murder.

6 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 2

I would count it as a baby in the fridge ...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better for them if you kill someone, than their fridge. And the two way built in camera will serve as evidence and record its final moments.
