I don't pay for gas my work does. They also pay extra hours for me to sit at airports. When asked why I have so many extra hours due to current wait times and delays I just say "The company has exactly as much ability as I do to put pressure on the government to correct these issues".
I don't even drive a car, but it'd be nice if the cost of everything wasn't about the skyrocket because racist, bigoted dumbass started a war to downplay accusations of pedophilia. Dunking on other dumbasses isn't as fun when so many people who did nothing wrong are going to be hurting too.
I was gassing my little car a couple days ago and saw a couple trucks just flooring it from the stop light, right in front of the gas station. They must love fuel prices right now I can only surmise
Lol yup. "Why you putting premiun in that import? Like biden much?". Latino accent... "excuse me, unlike your carburated mid 19 century abomination, this marvel of engineering was assembled in north carolina, you know, that state with the nice beaches and sandy wines? Me, able to afford gas because I drive a sensible car that gets reasonable mileage instead of a "manly" gas guzzling SUV or big truck with a cab that barely ever gets used.
I'm in Canada, I took on a huge loan to buy a fancy EV. I was spending Atleast $600 / month on fuel with my previous vehicle. I finally feel like I made a good decision.
UK here. Average Diesel prices around me are 1.80 £/l, which is 8.80 $/gal for you guys. Cost me nearly £80 to fill my car the other day, so thanks for that.
And just a happy little note that all the gremlins who voted for trump just to get the crypto boost he bribed them with despite everything else he brought to the table have been wiped the fuck out. Get karmad loser.
And they will still do it... the guy down the block keeps buying trump 2024 flags because the cheap Temu grade ones he keeps getting last only a couple of months before the fall apart. Pathetic.
On my way to work, I sometimes drove through an area that was basically nothing but a row of homes with Trump stuff. All of the stuff is now gone except for a single Trump flag that's been left there to increasingly shred to nothingness by the environment. It's barely there at this point but I know what it once was. It's truly a perfect metaphor for America right now.
They were AI garbage, putting his face on different bodies, like superheroes, cowboys, and crap like that. They sold for $99 each. It was mostly a money laundering scam, I'm sure, but some really stupid people also threw away their life's savings on them.
If you haven't already, do some math for off-peak (over night) rates, and how much driving you do, and be EV efficiency. It may only add some $50-100 to your electricity bill while skating fuel costs by 200-300. Maybe
I'm slightly pissed at the price of electricity going up which is hitting my car charging. One weekend I paid £3 to charge my car, by the next it was £17. But still a fraction of what it costs in petrol.
One of us! One of us! One of us! ... Look, we have nothing better to do while only pulling 40 to 50 kW from a DCFC on a road trip. Kettle on the campstove is almost boiled, want a coffee? Oh. Okay, well ... One of us! One of us! One of us! One of us! One of us! One of us! (Seriously though, the 2017-2023 Bolt was just an outstanding daily driver)
I am in this camp too. My roof PVs feed my LFPs which charges the EVs. Going on 4 years without paying for electricity. Everything runs when grid is down. It’s weird being the only house in the neighborhood lit when an outage happens.
And how much did all that cost you up front? This post reeks of privilege because people who are poor suffer by paying for higher fuel costs for not being able to afford these things for being poor.
Yup. I'm in the UK and my car does about 250 miles on £3 of electricity. Finding it hard not to be too smug with some of my work colleagues who have been giving me shit. I am changing the car soon though as it's American and I don't like giving musk money.
I can see the writing on the wall, old rich madmen will manipulate the price of oil and gas and fuck us as much as they can, as long as we're dependent on oil and gas, they can fuck us. We just switched from natural gas to an electric heat pump and water heater for our house, our government was giving out big rebate incentives to do so, it's fucking way past time we abandon fossil fuels.
Here in Michigan, it takes a fair bit of work for the energy companies will raise rates so there's going to be a bit of a delay before we get hit with any hikes. The one thing that concerns me is that this might pressure folks to support the Line 5 natural gas tunnel under the Great Lakes. The potential for a rupture causing a horrific destruction to our largest source of fresh water is just way way way too big of a risk and I'd hate for short-term concerns to push it through.
I bought a new car a hot minute before Covid hit. Six years later I just breached 20k miles on it, all thanks to work from home and hybrid work schedules.
I lucked out, last Sept my Elantra caught on fire, and I got a VW EV. Same time, my electric company offered me free nights after 9. Why yes I will, thank you very much!
I would love to move to an EV, unfortunately first I need a garage to keep it charged and that's like a 30k+ investment on top of actually buying an EV.
Luckily I work from home so I only fill up my car about once per month, but my partner isn't so lucky lol
We have two plug-in hybrids, and are set up to charge both in the driveway; one Level 1, and one 20 amp 240v, The chargers are actually inside the garage, near a front corner. I cut a pet-door waist-high on the outside wall, and the cables go through it. Either charger can reach either of the cars parked in front of the garage.
Luckily I have 1 EV already. But we're due to replace our gas car soon and I was going to go EV there too. Sadly our savings are down to barebones as I spent like 8 months unemployed last year. Hopefully in a few months, used evs are still as cheap as they are now but I have some doubts.
I'm a big fan of a moped (when I don't have to get on an interstate highway). They get amazing mileage just because you aren't driving around something that weighs 2 tons.
I mean, the range is quite vast. You can get an early nissan leaf for like $5k if you just need something to get from point to point and don't need lots of range. You can get early model S for like $8-9k for something much more premium and more range, but with a lot more potential for expensive repairs. Low teens for early model 3s. Less potential for failure. If you want something that doesn't have a musk, you're in the mid teens.
There's the rub. I was taught a substantial amount of shady ass auto repair from a man born in 1959. It saves me several grand a year to be able to buy an I.C.E. car for 5k at 100k miles and keep it on the road for five years with like 600 a year in parts and labor I can't do. If I got a used elec/hybrid and take it into the shop and they say "well, you need a new flumpus, your skeejats are worn, and your gromangle has 11 months tops." I'm fucked to the tune of a new car. :/
As much as musk sucks, the model 3s are pretty rock solid cars. Yea the fit and finish isn't up to par, but mechanically? most the teething issues were worked out with the model S. And they made SO many of them, that there are ample replacement parts available everywhere. Since theres relatively little mechanical linkages, a car totaled due to rear end damage is still going to have a perfectly good rear motor, so even if you have a freak failure of an expensive part, you can find them used.
Ah, but the MAGAs spent THAT money, and now they're buying very expensive gas for their big trucks, and trying to find a way to think of it without making their god look bad! The justice is only in that they're hurting more. Which is a shit form of justice, but natural in the "I've one-upped you" world they've created.
The sci-fi author Larry Niven used it in his Ringworld books as an exclamation of frustration. A lot of authors from that era tried to invent their own slang/swears, and since a ton of them had been in the military, acronyms were a large category. They usually didn't catch on because they were so clunky, like TANSTAFL, which is "There Ain't No Such Thing As a Free Lunch" from Robert Heinlein.
