If you don't allow the option for people to peacefully acquire the resources they need to survive, you are only leaving the options that include violence.
He does not believe this. He says this so the people do not tear down his door and beat him to a pulp. They do not wish to repeat what happened in France.
Nah. In civilised countries like where I live, through the tax system we have funded healthcare, childcare, subsidised pharmaceuticals, education, year 3 kindergarten and lots more so we won't be collapsing.
The "end of our civilization" talk amuses me. We did all of this 100-years ago and survived. It was pure hell, but we came out the other side until all the people who remembered were dead. So, here we are again.
While he is right in words, listen again. All he lists are BASIC REQUIREMENTS for a half-decent human life. He is absolutely NOT saying 'make this society a great place for everyone to live in' - he is saying "Give the slaves enough food so they don't starve while working for the ruling class". He is not a progressive by any stretch of the word. He's trying to reign in his compatriots, to prevent violent uprisings, a civil war or, most important, a collapsed US and global economy.
In theory all these peoiple that just talk could create an organoizationb, donate them what they think they should be taxed (or more), make that public and let the organozation help and pay for low income people. That would be a great start.
Certain rich folks want a slave caste system. Where they sit on a pool of people who are not scrounging for a paycheck, but to just exist for another day. They know desperate people do desperate things, so they want a pool of desperation they can leverage as labor on-demand they can exterminate when not needed. The public in general view people and labor as feast or famine, and want welfare to help people exist during famine times. It's a healthier system if you want labor to expand and retract.
"Our" civilization? No, just yours, American civilization. The other part of the world is good with universal healthcare and cheap housing for the working class.
I've been suggesting to other people an expansion of the current tax brackets to cover more tiers of upper income, a possible change that would tax stock option compensations as regular income, and making Capital Gains and Corporate Taxes a progressive system too.
Any company public or private should never be allowed to pay their ceo and other high ranking members more than 1000 times the lowest wage. Billionaires just shouldn't exist unless you managed to get there with a single company you created from scratch.
We still have poor people pointing at other poor people saying they don't deserve help. The call is coming from inside the house (and voting for billionaire wealth).
Either way, it is true. The trajectory of wealth inequality is not sustainable. Only a society that does not value human life would permit it. The propaganda surrounding taxation, economic equality and progressive, socially positive policy has been so overwhelming for so long that the very people who would benefit from anything left of cold hard capitalism for the masses and socialized risk & losses for the wealthy not only vote against it but BELIEVE it through and through. Pure insanity.
PR. Always is. He's trying to save his ass from the gallows.... hint unless you give up the billions and just be a simple multi millionaire..... no billionaires. Give it up
Buffet has already given away a lot of his money, almost more than the rest put together, and he's still on the top 10 list. Once you're at a point where you start regurgitating wealth, you start to see all the problems it causes. Well, except if you're a whiny little bitch boy. Helping your fellow man has never been a new thing, but it is becoming rarer.

I disagree with his characterization of it as "free stuff", we want our taxes to pay for this shit rather than oil subsidies and bombing brown kids.

Meh, he doesn't care about poor people. He is being kept awake at night by the distinctive sound of the sharpening of guillotine blades.

I think some billionaires are starting to realize that if the inequality keeps getting worse their lives might be in danger.

You can get pretty rich still thinking you are a decent or pragmatic person. Occasionally this trickles over into some decent behavior.

It is NOT free. It is using tax paid in to benefit the society that is paying rather that covering tax subsidies for millionaires/billionaires.

Because the very nature of these financial institutions is to extract value and wealth from the public.

"We're giving away most of our wealth... but we keep doubling our wealth..." Great to donate, but the damage is cumulative and constant.
