Banks concerned about "economic toll" due to new rules

Dec 6, 2023 9:13 PM

In 2022 JP Morgan had net income of only $128B, Morgan Stanley only $11B, and Goldman Sachs only $47B. Think of the shareholders.

This makes me happy. I think that when the bankers are unhappy, that means the banking system is better for us.

Is that a threat?

Translated from bankinese: "We will raise fees and interest rates and blame it on the new rules, but in secret we will let the low and middle income customers pay for this several times over and we will make record profits, just like during the inflation we intentionally made worse".

Why is Dimon still alive? Fuck these banksters. #eattherich

Now I won't be able to get gold plated fixtures on my new yacht. Boo hoo.

Obligatory “won’t someone think of the billionaires” meme.

This society's main problem is that it's run by money. Our elections only allow the most power hungry, requiring maneuvering up through party hierarchies. This country is dumb and on the verge of becoming a game of monopoly run by bullies.

What they're saying is these new rules will hurt their profits.

My thoughts and prayers boys... thoughts and prayers.

It’ll be a cold day in hell when I give a single fuck what Jamie Dimon thinks is “too tough”

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Jamie Dimon saying “this is too tough” roughly translates to “I’m going to fuck over as many people as possible so that I get my money/way”

bankers planning to cause economic chaos if congress puts rules on them

Aka, "This is a real nice economy you got here. Be a shame if something were to . . . happen to it."

This isn't an open and free market that dictates when you all get together and approach congress to get the same thing.

Need more players, with regional banks and community banks getting to the forefront of assistance from the gov.

Big banks are saying...we get enough of our monies from business and Intl...so take away their float.

Do I have a few accounts with big banks? Yup. Kept with minimal activity for credit length. But 90% goes to my credit union.

Need More rules.

Easy fix - remove the ability for banks to have profit

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Not THEIR economy. No that'll be fine. They're just going to threaten the economy of voters

2 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 1

That's what I took it as... a threat. In other words they are holding the economy hostage to get what they want, even though it's clear now that deregulation actually hurts the economy (a point derived from Bernie Madoff's mortgage derivative scheme and the economic turmoil that it caused).

That's absolutly what it was

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think there will be an actual tough rule for them in my lifetime, they just mean it will have a slight impact on their insane margins so they may have less to 'donate' to politicians

in banker speak this means "don't sweat it, we'll pass the costs on to the poor. give money plz"

remember to always replace "economy" with "rich people's yacht money"

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh boo fucking whooo. Im sorry you cant give yourself a 100m dollar raise this year for fucking everyone over with you shitty interest rates.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the economy were really so fragile that minor things like this can cause problems for it, I'd wonder how it lasted this long.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The rich know that they can say whatever they want about the economy and nobody will call them out, because the average voter has only a vague idea what the economy even is.

Waaaah, waaaah, waaah. The wise will join a federal credit union!

I scrolled too far down to see this. Credit Unions are awesome!

oh no, so unfair that the too-massive-to-fail banks that managed to survive the last financial crisis have to maintain capital reserves that make it more difficult to create the next financial crisis

2 years ago | Likes 452 Dislikes 1

If it's bad for them, then it's likely good for 98% of the public.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Why do we need reserves if you are just gonna bail us out again? -These assholes

2 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

Well, they have a point. They got away with it, why would they want to change anything at all?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

“managed to survive” with a massive, government backed capital injection*

* "Government backed" = your money used to support badly managed mega-rich corporations; money not spent on schools, infrastructure etc.

I'm short on sympathy for that lot, so far as I'm aware only Iceland raked their bankers over the coals after the last world financial clusterfuck. They can all get stuffed with gymie-gympie leaves for all I care.

Just like Republicans. Resort to blackmail when things don't go their way.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They do it because it works.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know, we don't have to actually eat the rich. I don't think they'd taste good anyway. Merely cooking them will accomplish what needs to happen in this world.

Crematoriums have some great ovens for this purpose, I hear.

Chop off their money.

Give them a minimum wage job and the cheapest rental available (not that it's even affordable), see how they do. They'll rise up through the company quickly because they've got what it takes, right? Right?

May I humbly suggest an alternative?
