A lot of these were prescribed and easily available a century or so ago. We now think meth is crazy (and it is). But back then it was normal “medicine”. 100 years from today I wonder if the future generations will be like “OMG! I can’t believe they ate so much sugar!”. Or like “OMG they put cheese on everything!”. #firstbigpost #ilovecheese

I mean... for most of these... they're not *wrong*...

Asthma cigarettes were made with the leaves of Datura stramonium, mixed with tobacco.

So much want.

Adderall is essentially methamphetamine.

People must have been lit back in the day.

Well, smoking does paralyze parts of your bronchials, which is why when you quit, you immediately develop a bad cough

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The amenorrhea one was an abortificant.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see your point but cheese never made anyone someone’s face lol

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact - we put cheese on everything because the government saved the dairy industry and stored cheese in a cave.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would actually like a nice cold can of ayahuasca on ice right now

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#6 is used to cause abortions. Commenting just in case that confused anyone else https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apiol

Nembuthal suppositories for small kids? That would scare them more than the nightmares it's supposed to cure.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah my cancers acting up again. Better eat some more cigarettes.

8 years ago | Likes 224 Dislikes 0

Same with asthma?? Like I feel that's one that's an immediate "nope this doesn't work"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They add a chemical that opens up your airways.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of these companies are still around (Bayer) they didnt give a fuck then, certainly don't now either.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stimulants are sometimes super good for depression, though. My ADHD meds have been better for my depression than any antidepressants.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's actually a shame most doctors won't try them, even as a last resort.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Laudownadum. *poof*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meth is only crazy because of the doses people take and the way they take it. At prescribed therapeutic doses it helps people and is safe.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's also still available by prescription, at least in Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And in the US, where it is a Schedule II drug, the same schedule as all opioids.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Read the book Blitzed for stories of housewives eating amphetamine chocolates in nazi germany. 1piece was a HUGE dose and they ate several.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LSD for menstruation? Sounds valid.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So shoving barbiturates up your ass was a thing.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Bet it cleared you out

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably tasted like ass so they figured you might as well skip the middleman when administering to children.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

So that explains why everyone talks about the good 'ol days.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The compounds in 6 would've actually induced an abortion...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's the point

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ahh the good ol days

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

I'm sure none of it contributed to WW1 or WW2 and the fact that most of the Allied and Axis leaders where drug addicts or alcoholics.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has been confirmed Hitler andd his soldiers were on meth

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put cocaine back in Coca-Cola

8 years ago | Likes 125 Dislikes 2

Buy some and do it yourself. My grandma used to.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They never really took it out.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, you are correct. Coke is one of the few remaining products that can still use the coca leaf.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Yes, but they completely took out Cocaine from their ingredients back in the early 1900's.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I bet everyone got bronchitis back then

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I got bronchitis, ain't nobody got time for that

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

So is it true that smoking cigarettes cause cancer? I always have doubts

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cigarettes have a lot of known carcinogens. It doesn't mean you'll get cancer but it increases your odds.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Smoking increases risk of cancer. It also increases risk of cardiovascular and/or pulmonary disease far more. Most smokers will die of a

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

heart attack long before lung cancer since the basal risk of heart attack overall is so much higher.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That Mrs Winslow’s soothing syrup killed a lot of babies, and the bottles show up all the time on 19th ce archaeological sites

8 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

Turns out giving babies morphine is a bad idea...

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Especially around outhouse sites.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All the best artifacts are in the privy!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder if people giving it to babies missed the point... like buying a Hitachi to massage your ‘back’

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Honestly though, had a knot in my shoulder once and it really will work for that too.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

, I'M GONNA GET ALL THE SHIT DONE, ALL OF IT, FIGHTING OFF THESE BEES AND JACKING OFF INTO ASHES!

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Methamphetamine is an approved drug by the FDA, Schedule II, for the treatment of ADHD and obesity. This isn't a joke: it's a real medicine

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

when used correctly. I agonize over such posts as barbiturates and quaaludes would be immensely for my insomnia if they were still legal.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Nothing to do with smoking Crystal meth

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who used to work pharmacy it's true we didn't keep it in stock but if a patient we're prescribed it we could order it in

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Adderall is a mix of 4 different forms of amphetamine

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...and Adderall is a only one of many approved amphetamines. My own prescription is d-amphetamine only.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most ADD/ADHD medication are still an amphetamine compound without just without some of the more negative chemical bonds.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

In the US, meth can still be legally prescribed for treatment of ADHD and obesity. The drug itself isn't bad, only the use thereof and its

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

extreme addiction potential.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"without just without" ... looks like someone's missed their amphetimine dose

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, amphetamine is routinely prescribed for ADHD and is safe to use in this regard long term if it is not abused.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could use that argument for so many medications...a couple different bonds can completely change the biological activity of a drug.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That’s like anti-vaxxers saying how there’s mercury in vaccines. Yes there’s mercury, but it’s bound in a molecule in a way that isn’t toxic

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amphetamines work and are safe when they aren't abused. The only problem is that they are very tempting to abuse.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Oh yeah I'm not saying anything bad about it. We've definitely gotten more responsible with their use over time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Lisdexamfetamine is cool, it's a prodrug that doesn't actually turn into amphetamine until it's in your blood. Can't snort it like adderall.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can snort it but the kinetics will not be changed as a result.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right, that's what I meant but.. 140 characters

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah Vyvanse. That stuff will keep you alert for 12 hours People actually snort Adderall? I figured most abusers just took it instead of sleep

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With me it doesn't last that long. I often nap on the train home from work. Heck I almost dozed off at the computer this afternoon just 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

a few hours after dosing. 70mg too.
