Using it as intended then, I see.

Maybe don't advertise thing as bulletproof if you don't want it to be shot at. Just a thought

Zees are speed holes, zey make ze car go faster.
bingotown
They are abusing the trucks because it gets tons of revenue when they post the video results of the failures on youtube. It’s financially worth it to shoot holes in the trucks.
mckjm2
When a cybertruck is destroyed, nothing of value is lost.
Orion371
All aboard the Cybertruck we're on the fast track to Idiocracy.
geekstudios
The Venn diagram of idiots and Cybertruck owners is a circle within a circle.
Yellowchopsticks
"Just let the Cybertrucks rust naturally" cry the Tesla engineers.
DontKnowTheSource
Could it not be construed as false advertisement that musk declared it was "bullet proof" when he debuted the truck but it is now, clearly, not bulletproof?
EroticZombiePants
I can't say I ever willingly tested the limits of indestructibility of any product for funsies.
rileysmurf
Elongated Muskrat billed it as indestructible, so naturally the trust fund morons are going to put it to a literal test.
Dolenmorgul
If you drive a vehicle that looks like it was designed by a toddler you might do some toddler things to it
rukeman
Well they were dumb enough to buy it so this is much of a surprise.
Incognito808
This vehicle is a magnificent red flag. I actually like that it's so iconic.

Hey one billionaire died in a Tesla, drunk and high off her capitalist adventures. Let's hope for more!

But it's a tank
Blasfemur
Merely subjecting the Cybertruck to earth's atmosphere seems to do them harm.
clamjuicecoctail
“have been subjected their trucks”

Jellopnic has gone down the drain in terms of editorial quality over the last five years tbh.
robocoSmuggler
It's all downhill from here, across all news sites. No worries. I brought my toboggan.
Badprenup
Editing on all the Gizmodo group of sites has become essentially non-existent in the last 6 months
tavinjer
Can’t have editorial work getting in the way of all those ads and broken comment sections and slideshows!

https://electrek.co/2023/11/30/tesla-is-selling-broken-glass-decals-after-using-a-baseball-for-cybertruck-stunt/ .... I mean... Please don't shoot and abuse cars bought by idiots that still think Tesla is a reputable company. No offense to their actual engineers and employees but their leaders are ..... so many words I'm not clever enough to insult accurately with.
FajitaPrinceofAllMexicans
You know why cars crumple and aren't resistant to gunfire? They're meant to be crushed, because if they are then the force of the impact goes into that and not into our squishy bodies.

Damn. Was hoping it was a gif.

Ha!

Olay, but the typo in the article description is very frustrating.
imnotgoodwithschedules
Was that on purpose?
SmollCashew
Would be hilarious if it were. I thought I went back and fixed it, but apparently made the same flub. My phone keeps auto-correcting weird stuff, and not fixing things that should be obvious.
NotACanadian
OLÉ!
SunAnvil
Tesla still sold them the trucks so not sure what the issue really is. Some asshat with expendable cash will see said videos then it's "hold my beer"
lbargomancer
Probably because everything they damage, and every way they do it, runs directly counter to the explicit message of all the advertising Tesla put out; while it might not be legally actionable as false advertising, it's still another indictment against Tesla's honesty about their vehicle quality.
SomeDetroitGuy
*station wagons. They aren't actually trucks.

Keeping your bulletholes in a bulletproof truck

that's one of those "what's classy if you're rich but trashy if you're poor" paradoxes
Sooner70
Once knew a guy who deliberately shot holes in his car 'cause he thought it looked cool... Redneck chic! To be fair, the car in question was a total beater that didn't have more than a year to live anyways, but still....

Part of JerryRigEverything's thing is durability testing of consumer products. This is just on brand.

I don't think anyone has claimed CyberTruck owners are intelligent.
flappymoobs
This!
DaveSamsonite
I refer to it as the CNT, short for the Crappy Nerd Truck. Thats pronounced exactly how you think it is.
SoulTakerWasSupposedToBeMyUsernameButSomebodyStoleIT
No I think that actually prevents you from purchasing one. Can't finish the check out if you score to high on the included IQ test
IdiotSavantTinker
Don't even need an IQ test, there are at least two electric trucks on the market, one of which is made by a real car company.
SomeDetroitGuy
Chevy, Ford, and Rivian all have very nice electric trucks that are actual trucks and not station wagons like the Cybertruck is.
IdiotSavantTinker
I had the chance to drive one of the electric F150's. Only thing really wrong with it is the size, but that's a complaint I have about the normal F150, and the silverado, and the tundra, etc etc.

clamjuicecoctail
That was ironic
shmoogeeoogee
Honestly best case, I hope it turns into a class action for false advertisement and tesla has to pay for all the bullet holes and shit
GOAE
Nope, ain't no way Tesla's lawyers did not ensure fine print saying only bullet proof in specific areas to a certain caliber. Nothing is truly bullet proof anyways, just bullet resistant, same thing with water proof.
Filanwizard
I suspect they do not assure anything above typical pistol calibers.
Sageypie
Yeah, I'm not seeing a real reason for the engineer to want people to stop here, other than, "please don't look at how full of shit we were about this truck"
Ulthirm
Or the engineer is one of many locked in by the company currently with its predatory hiring practices and wants the ability to safely leave before they get blamed for Elon and his yesmen's stupidity
Hammertulski
Might put undue stress on parts supply chain, which - if I know anything about Musk and his stupid fucking affinity for parts that are stupid hard to make and fit exactly one vehicle - is probably stressed. Every dented Edgemobile is one more truck sitting 95% complete because warranty orders depleted parts reserves.
