On October 26th, 2016 I got a late afternoon text message from the Humane Society where I am on file as a foster parent for orphaned animals. They asked if I would be willing to take in a few puppies, and if I could get there today. ASAP. So I got there as soon as I could, and even though by now the shelter was closed for the day (to the public at least), there were several other fosters waiting around, having also been called to get there ASAP. We found out what all the fuss was about when the foster coordinator came over with 3 crates full of puppies.

There were 12 in total, all pit bulls or pit mixes (we wouldn't be able to tell until later). And they were half dead. To say they were neglected is an understatement. They were half dead, starved nearly to death. And they were covered in layers of feces and urine. Because I work from home and was able to be with them 24/7, I took the four smallest ones, the ones in need of the most round the clock care.

From left to right O'Connor, Toretto, Mia, and Letti.

After their bath, they were already starting to look better.

It became very obvious very quickly that Mia and Letti were very bad off. So the next morning, they went back to the shelter to see the vet and get some fluids.

Obligatory cat tax. Eva Khaleesi (top) and Simon (bottom). Simon was another one of my fosters.

WOW! Thank you for all that you did to help them! Happy ending! Hoping they find forever homes soon!

The fact you rescued those pups & you have a Deathly Hallows tattoo automatically makes you the greatest person I don't know.

At least the pups that passed knew love in their final hours. That alone is better than what they'd started with.

There's a special section in hell for people who abandon puppies to slowly die.

@ravensgrrl may have shed a few tears but I'm glad I read. Admirable pastime you got there- you rock! Going to adopt a van of pups now...

Shelters rely so much on fosters and volunteers. Thank you for everything. Your dedication and love are immensely appreciated.

I'm also very sorry for your loss of O'Connor and Mia. <3 I have no doubt your care gave them much needed comfort before their passing.

All amazing strong names. Then Simon. Simon got named after Simon in accounts. (I love them & you are a wonderful person.)

LOL. His litter was named after Immortal Instruments characters, because it was my sister's turn to choose a theme.

The foster coordinator usually sends me a text the day they leave the shelter with their new family.

I've had to take care of a litter. You come to think of the puppies as your kids. One of them got aspiration pneumonia AND got bit. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was a frikkin mess. I cried seeing something so little in pain. Luckily my gf and I nursed her back to health.

Pretty sure aspiration pneumonia is what took O'C as well. Before they were pulled by the HS, Animal Services had them and tried to feed.

As a kitten foster, it's hard to get them back after a certain point. Sometimes it's having food that does it. How many made it? Good job (:

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Out of the 12, 10 made it. I took the 4 worst off puppers and only 2 of them made it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's still an amazing number. You did what you could do, you saved them from further suffering (:

My mom and I foster kittens and we've had many nights like this, she gets all the more serious cases like this. We stayed up for three

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nights in a row trying to keep a litter of 6 kittens alive who had been abandoned, but sadly our story wasn't any percent happy. But we've

had many happy ones. Keep up the good work @op, I know it's tough but it's so worth jt.

Kittens are much, much harder than puppies. I've done several litters as well. Eva was a foster I had from 2wks up and couldn't part with.
