45 is not where I'd start. Practice with it, it takes good technique to handle the recoil. 9mm is far easier, almost as effective, and you get 15 or more rounds instead of 7

Having a firearm is not to be taken lightly, and for some people is a terrible idea. Only you can decide, weighing the ability to defend against a tyrannical government against your own mental health. I am a big advocate of being able to defend oneself, but I will never make someone feel inadequate if they honestly know their own limitations.

I highly recommend that if you do take that path, you also arrange for at least familiarity training, and spend some time at the range getting used to it. You don't want the first time using the weapon to be on a two-way range.

I have firearms training. I was on a rifle team in Jrotc back in HS and have been to shooting ranges with friends and their guns many times. I have weighed the pros and cons of gun ownership for the last 18 years, it wasnt until recently that the scale has tipped toward the necessity of gun ownership.

Careful bringing pistols to a rally, look up your local laws first. Many places distinguish between the right to open carry long arms versus pistols. And I think to conceal a pistol you need a license pretty much everywhere there's going to be a rally.

if the gun is concealed that will not become an issue. if you genuinely need the gun then the general rule is that it is better to go to court still alive than to obey the law but be dead. its a situational thing, and the most important part is to think things through.
