The way the musket ball splatters.

That armor was very surprised.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What the devil?!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aww look at the happy face at the end.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a miracle anyone could shoot with those things. The time between flash and actual shot is ridiculous, and a great reason the aim sucked

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They often turned their face away before firing to avoid facial burns. It's already inaccurate past 80-100yards without firing blind!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His lack of shooting glasses is seriously bothering me.

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Why, it's not like there is a minor black powder explosion 3 inches from his face.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Dented that guy’s boat. Not cool.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

FLEX TAPE! NOW!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That armor looks shocked to have been hit

A Bullet-proof.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a guy overload a musket on me when I was 14 at boy scout camp. Knocked me on my ass so hard I couldn't think straight for a few minutes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The armor is shocked to be shot at

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tssshhhhh. What's that? It's musket repellent. B.Hicks

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm disturbed by the lack of eye protection

4 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Doesn't even have his safety squints on either

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

He is trying to be historically accurate...

This post ain't no flash in the pan.

4 years ago | Likes 167 Dislikes 2

That saying actually refers to the pan that a photographer would hold with magnesium powder flash.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nonsense. The black powder in the musket pan would flash, but not ignite the main charge, thus amounting to nothing, unlike the 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

the magnesium which fully completed its purpose by quickly burning.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Definitely not a damp squib

That little guy? I wouldn't worry about that little guy.

1 of my favourite lines

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You’re a sick fucker, Mack

4 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

In my day the rookie wore the cup. And we fucking used blanks for Christmas sake.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I *highly* recommend checking out Tacoma FD if you liked Super Troopers, same people but fire fighters. It's a fucking riot.

4 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just mad it wasn't filmed anywhere near Tacoma :( They did use some B-roll and static images of Tacoma though.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The outside shot of the station is so hilariously a composite of different buildings too.

4 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

In guessing Springfield 1863?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah bro, Model 1863 was a percussion gun, not a flintlock. Its kinda hard to tell, but my guess is either Model 1812 or Charleville.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yeah I watched a documentary showing flintlock pistols and how they don't kick at all; so I knew something was off.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That lock time is crazy.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I kinda want one now

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

They're kinda a pain in the ass to shoot with (very high maintenance). But fun to play with once or twice.

Of all the guns to wear eye protection with that's the one you pick not to? It has an explosion outside before inside.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think it's technically a deflagration. But yes, your point is valid.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see why all the characters in Sharpe's Rifles always had faces covered in soot after a battle.

Clack FWOOSH KABANG THONK

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why, a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court couldn't have done better.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's gotta be a steel plate and not just an iron one.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Almost like any armor contemporary with the musket would be made of steel or something. Wild, I know.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I was under the assumption that steel plating wasn't in wide spread use until traditional armor was obsolete.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a pretty large overlap. Napoleonic cuirassiers wore pretty think plate armor, it'd stop a musket ball just like this.

4 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

Ah good times!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OK, even for a cartoon this is bad. Shot would be AFTER the powder.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I mean it exploded so I think the point is he does it wrong and there’s consequences?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the wadding. The joke is Sylvester's an idiot.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

v

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Part of the joke in this was Sylvester trying to load in different orders, but in the end Tweety (I think) was pulling the trigger each time

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ah. Haven't seen the full carton, so didn't get that form this clip. Much thanks.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The average person has no idea how a proper firearm functions in modern times, let alone early tech models.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And half of them are dumber than that.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is scary because guns in the US are now a political issue and ignorance can be exploited.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but that cartoon is real old

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure which side you're trying to advocate for here. The average person is pretty dumb all around.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would suck to be the guy testing out the armor...

4 years ago | Likes 591 Dislikes 2

That's how Johnny Knoxville for his start.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I heard his name is... Denty Moore

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well there's definitely stew in that cup...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do you mean!? He just got a free new belly button! What’s not to like?

4 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

"Now hiring, clones inquire!"

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm actually pretty surprised it held, even to an old musket like that.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think the armor wanted it. You see that O face?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Better that than to be the control group.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Olde school unpaid intern

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If you can’t step out of the way of a gun firing that slowly, you deserve to get shot.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Having been shot three times in armor... Fucking ouch. Oh God. Wheeze. Kill me.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't worry they are probably using a dummy.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He’d have to be to let someone shoot him with a musket.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I fart-laughed at this. Luckily I was on the toilet.

Shocked pikachu *

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Whadda ya mean? The armor stopped the round, he’s fine

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol right especially since these things were inaccurate AF.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Firearms were fairly common since mid 1400... armour adapted.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think Gigas85 is referring to the musket's lack of precision hitting the target, not any lack of historical accuracy.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

BS, no recoil.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I think you're overestimating the length of the clips. The one of the muzzle is less than 1/10 of a second, too short to see the recoil.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Likely strapped down for the actual test shot and the view of the pan separate. Hard to get stable video of a muzzle on a rifle being held.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thing is probably strapped to a heavy brace to stabilize it, both for the shot and to avoid a human accidentally dropping it from the kick.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The burn is really slow, less recoil than modern weapons, but still there

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Old school muskets were beefy. I imagine the mass would absorb the recoil

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Not even close, the ball they fire is beefy too. They kick like any firearm.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I got to try a .50 caliber octagonal barrel muzzleloader. Extremely heavy and kicked like a mule. Not pleasant to shoot at all.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Aw, man, I really need sauce for this.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is from a French documentary on Prince Eugene and the Ottoman Empire and they were testing armor made like his

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The clip is around minute 35

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That fire delay. Such an odd feeling when you're used to modern ammunition.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

IOW, Lock Time... from when you pull the trigger until bang-y noises.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm lucky, I've actually been able to fire a flintlock, and a cap fire muzzleloader.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So have I... I did not enjoy it (got sprayed in the face (and up my nose) with burning powder...
