This exists because either some redneck or Alaskan had extra money and free time. Looks like someone cut the ass end off a normal bus. Then slide the rear axle forward and installed a shorter drive shaft.
Okay, so, we had a program in high school where you could also go to college in the second half of the day. There were so few students in it that we rode the short bus to the college. It was... a little surreal, but definitely funny.
Drove those for a year, loved it. The students were all handicapped but great kids. Route was all over the county, long hours, lots of overtime. Funky buses.
Girlfriend quit nursing drove bus. Company was all RW nutjobs and she ended up with the short bus and got no respect. Severly disabled children bus driver and Nurse don't jibe. Drivers have to call EMS. No one would want me to drive a bus .
I would mostly think it's good to let the kids have a semblance of a normal school life. Getting away from your caretakers could mean a lot and build confidence. Opportunity to build social interactions. Typical stuff, just for everybody.

I feel like the guys at the Bluebird factory have a lot of fun. If you've never seen one, their Wanderlodge model is a thing of beauty.

I once took a panoramic photo that ended up like this
Becker37
I want it
carbonr1
I love it.
conklin5
In the bus biz, we call that the Trumper. It's the shortest short bus possible.
ThePostPenultStraw
Is this a real bus or just for the movie? You could transport more kids in a standard mini van than on this bus. Maybe get better gas mileage also.
Boatdoctor
Hey, how did they find the bus i rode to school in back in the day?
JRSYJAY
On this episode of tiny home…..
MarkWithAQue
Hey, that's the bus that took me to school everyday. I was curious what happened to it when I graduated.
johnvilnis
Hey it’s cold out, okay.
alecmrcraig
At this point, a mini van would make more sense.
UncleRat
I have never wanted a motor vehicle more than I want this bus puppy.

It's a SCHOOL BS - big enough for a driver, not enough room for U. ;)
Bardcrest
I think that is from Dumb and Dumberer
evilspock
WANT.
i want to clean it up and run it as a limo charter, and every trip comes stocked with an ice chest full of capri suns and otterpops. I'd make mint.
twatburglar
It looks like the school bus version of those dogs with short spine syndrome
chibihero
Hey that looks like the bus i road!
huellbabineaux911
The perfect daily driver
Macetheace50
Alright, all of you in the back of the bus.
Y'all are now in the front of the bus!
SugarTeet
John, John, Sonja and me. Short bus crews UNITE!
Chimpanzeezeetop
That bus is regular size, some might say it's too big.
WillTheFifth
It definitely gets the job done. It will get you to where you're going.
AllegedlyTonyDutch
Does this exist on purpose or is this the result of certain types of reulations?

Both look fun to drive!
psugab
That actually looks like it would be great. Tall person version of the smart car
Macetheace50
Pro: It's taller than a smart car.
TheNoggle
Its not their fault, its cold out.
RummageSaleBubbler
They painted the hood?
Teneksi
Less reflected sunlight in the driver's eyes.

I watched this movie just for this scene!
I regret everything! :D

The shortest bus for when the special-needs of the few outweigh the special-needs of the many.
drewfusmpls
Ironically the short bus that I rode to school for a minute was actually just a white van that this old guy drove.... omg
pomax
What special needs, though? "Wanting an ex-schoolbus"?
Fanner50
They found Trump’s school bus?
ifixlasers42
Beat me to it lol
Canigetbannedagain2
What motor swap would you do with that .

Does this have advantages over a van for students with challenges like that?

sailorjurai108
Do they have a wheelchair lift or something?
MissDeeMeanor
Mine didn't. There were two of us, the driver and the lifter.
InablueMule
They have a lift and the driver has to get out to operate it.
