Happened to me at ABQ in 1997. On short final in C172. Tower: F18 your 6, no electrics, smoke, break right. I did. Passenger: "Holy SHIT!"
Sorry, for thoes that dont speak pilot? A faulty F18 was behind you and you had to get out of the way?
Translation: A Marine Corps F/A-18 with smoke in the cockpit, electrical problems, no radio needed the runway I was about to land on. 1/2
His wingman contacted the tower (Albuquerque International Sunport) and asked for the runway. Both F18s passed REALLY close to us.

I think that he was flying in a military zone and was radio'd to scram, then gave a thumbs up. The wing wave is a friendly gesture.
I've heard of that happening when flying through an active MOA (which is legal) that the jets will stop and buzz the little bugsmashers.
