She's talking like that so she can deny claiming she hadn't when everything comes out.

If she can't scream NO loudly and proudly then the answer is yes. And she's covering for him. Sickening

I mean damn near anytime they open their mouths its a lie - and yet she couldn't lie about this one thing?? Tiny glimmer of guilt maybe? Who knows!

No place , no reward, no relationship is worth protectic child abusers. I would take a hard look at my life if I was on a stand about "did you see him with naked underage children?" and couldn't answer that. This is what human carbage looks like.

This isn’t about grift and lying. It’s about controlling the narrative. You answer the question you wish you were asked, not the one you were. Answering their question gives it legitimacy. Ignoring, mocking, and changing the subject keeps them on the defensive. If she says “no”, now they’ll all just start saying, “then why not release them?” It’s much smarter for them to simply deflect, disengage, and feign outrage that everyone’s time is being wasted.

This. A photographer got pics of her notes. They were attack notes, not anything intended to help her answer questions.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ugh. That was such a performative waste of time for everybody involved. I don't understand how you can go before a congressional committee and be allowed to say anything other than a direct answer to exactly what you're being asked, and not as an opportunity to go on a soap box rant. The only exception should be pleading the 5th, which if you're doing that, should also be a clear, concise response.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

she couldn't say no because that'd be perjury.

She’s seen them. Back when she was Florida AG

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m just baffled they’re still playing word games to cover their asses. I lost hope the files will come out… unedited, anyway. The situation has grown so dire in all other ways, that I won’t be surprised if several bombs, physical bombs, go off where the files are supposedly kept, the moment they’re about to be released. We’re right on the brink of openly murdering political opponents in broad daylight. Fascism is already here, and it’s not going away peacefully.

I wish the question had been worded that directly. Unfortunately it was worded "half-naked young women" which could be interpreted as 25 year olds in swimsuits and could have been when Trump was 25.

This kind of easy to disprove rage-bait just muddies the waters. Now, there was plenty of real stuff in that hearing that should have gotten her contempt charges.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't that be more damning though, if she could even say "no" to that?

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure what you mean. "Unclothed underage girls" would be anyone under 18 without a top or a bottom on. "Half-naked young women" could be the linked photo of him with WWE divas. The first is probably criminal, the second isn't even if the wording sounds like it should be.

He did own Miss Teen pageants and I personally wouldn't be surprised at all if he'd done things like this regularly, but this particular "quote" was about the adult pageants Miss USA and Miss Universe. The meme rephrases what he actually said ("girls" instead of "women") and even adds in misleading emphasis like the "14-16" in parentheses to make it more damning.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actual quote about Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants (1/2):

"Well, I'll tell you the funniest is that I’ll go backstage before a show, and everyone's getting dressed and ready and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere. And I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant and therefore I'm inspecting it. You know, I'm inspecting, I want to make sure that everything is good."

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2:

"You know, the dresses. ‘Is everyone okay?’ You know, they're standing there with no clothes. ‘Is everybody okay?’ And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that. But no, I've been very good."

She is playing it smart enough to not completely lie. When everything unfolds she will still be able to argue that she didnt lie about the photos bc she didnt answer at all. "I never said trump wasn't in those photos" will he the line, and she will likely get away with it bc in a technical sense it's true. She didnt lie she just didn't answer. But she relies entirely on trump's "charisma" to save her ass, and he will throw her under the bus. She is fucked without fascism at this point

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Ehhh. I think she's fucked for life on this one.

Most of them will be. No more political careers for the die hards, because, it's seeming like the removal will require something drastic, and lots of special elections will need to be held.

Essentially, if you let the president install a dictatorship, then you aided. It's possible for jail-time or worse for some.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Enh, they're gambling one of two things will happen. First, that they'll succeed in installing a stable rightwing illiberal democracy that will endure for the rest of their lives - or at least long enough that they won't be the principle criminals in the limelight when it falls. Or second, that even if their regime fails to start or falls quickly, the opposition that replaces it will be spineless Democrats who just want to move on and who won't zealously pursue the architects of the regime.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Democrats who just want move on should be warm up act for the wall as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, this is what fucking KILLS me about all these second tier grifters - they SUUUUUCK at grifting! All she had to do was lie with a straight face, say one word and stick to it. Can't even do that. So fucking cowardly, so fragile, so defensive.

6 months ago | Likes 596 Dislikes 7

She says no, all the people who have proof that's a lie (Patel, Noem) can hold that over her.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But if they have such proof, why would they NOT be holding it over her, already? Mere perjury seems a much lesser crime than child trafficking.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really says something about the people buying their grift.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lying will get her put in prison eventually, she's not that dumb

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

She is testifying under oath, and knows that if she lies blatantly, it might result in prison time for perjury.

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

She need "you are a total hypocrite" to be written down as a possible answer. She's not the brightest bulb in the shed.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lying can be used against you. A deflective ambiguous non-answer can't. It's painfully transparent that they do this all the time but it works which is all that matters because dems are too toothless to do anything but talk.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a lawyer, she's aware of what can happen if you lie to Congress (unlike Kash Patel). So rather than lie,n she just sidestepped every substantive a question and since the hearing was controlled by the Republicans, they did not hold her in contempt for refusing to answer. All hearings are sideshows while the GOP is in charge.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No! She could not lie or she’d be sued.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congressional hearings are under oath I think. If they lie and proven as such, they are screwed. So refusing to answer or saying you don't remember is self preservation.

6 months ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 1

FWIW, as a non-USian trivia sponge, AIUI testifying under oath isn't the rule and isn't generally required, but is _somewhat_ common in investigative hearings. So... maybe? But yeah, if she is under oath the naked weaselling would at least make tactical sense, as repulsively slimy and transparently bad-faith as it is.

6 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Not always under oath, but false statements even not under oath is a crime to Congress.

6 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Very important distinction worth calling out, because it means lying to congress is illegal, but congress lying to the people is not.

6 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

The people asking the question may have evidence (even if it's just testimony) that they know the correct answer, and if she said no, that could at the very least lead to another hearing.

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not to mention I'm sure several of her federal agents are also privy to the same information but can't do anything unless she knowingly purgers herself under oath. That requires to also prove that she knew the information not just that it exists. You better believe there are those with a conscience still in the DOJ who would drag her over the coals for it.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is the whole idea. Clog the courts. Drag out consequences. Appeal, complain, lie, deflect. Con man in motion.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's because she knows how easy it would be to disprove her, and perjury with congress can carry some serious weight.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I suppose, but I also feel like if you're already accessory to child trafficking, perjuring yourself by denying it under oath would be one of your LEAST concerns...

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She isn't anything accessory, she had nothing to do with the crime. She is aware of it and I'm not sure the legality on choosing not to prosecute.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I'm not mistaken... The second she lies under oath, any FBI agent who is aware of the truth, (any of them who combed the records looking for mentions of DJT) can now come forward to the judicial system and testify about the truth under whistleblower laws and be protected from retribution. Until then, every single agent is banned from making public announcements about active investigations. It's why Patel has to twist himself into knots while refusing to answer any question as well..

6 months ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Is that why he's always making that face?

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think that's from Trump triggering the remote control dildo in his ass.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, that would make sense. But also kinda seems that if such evidence exists and is already known to law enforcement agents/agencies, they _should_ have an obligation to pursue it and prosecute... but I guess this is one of those things that just is what it is.

6 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

The hierarchy is very important in the DOJ for this very reason. The framers didn't expect a corrupt director to be so easily installed. Federal agents just can't go rogue investigating or prosecuting on their own because that can seriously impact the success of convictions if it can be shown to not follow established procedure. Internal investigations are even more strict as well. I'm sure many agents are just waiting for Pam to fuck up so they can dethrone her.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

She's afraid when the truth comes out any outright liers will absolutely get prosecuted.

She's counting on her equivocation to save her.

6 months ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

There is no simple lie. Once the weakness of a lie is found another is needed to reinforce it. Rinse and repeat you end up with a tangle so dense it makes Christmas lights blush.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She'll argue it isn't a lie of commission.

6 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

6 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Conservative legal theory very frequently treats laws as a set of limitations on how you're *allowed* to behave rather than guidelines indicating how you're *supposed* to behave. As a result, you get "it's fine to do X as long as X is not explicitly forbidden" and very narrow readings of the law that ignore laws' intents in favor of finding specific pedantic interpretations that produce the desired outcome even if it's obviously not what the law was written to achieve.

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Very similar to wealthy people who view fines as a simple fee. "You can park your car in front of a fire hydrant it just costs $X" rather than viewing it as indicating that behavior isn't allowed

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

At the extreme it devolves into "laws as magic words", which manifests in a variety of ways - from police chanting "stop resisting" or writing "with the minimum amount of force necessary" in their reports to check legalistic boxes drawn by judges that make whatever nonsense they're engaged in "lawful", to sovereign citizens thinking that knowing certain legal phrases will literally force police and judges to do what they want...

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's silly. What has she seen in the last 20 years that suggests anyone from the Right will ever have to face accountability for lying?
