D Adams has created my all time favorite character throughout literature - Of course it's Wonko the sane. Look him up like he was some safety instructions on your toothpick package.

If you've done 6 impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milliways the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Before or after you create the alternate universe where you already have reservations?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's only 2 impossible things so far, need another 4 before breakfast.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can just make the reservation when you get back.

the ONLY good version of this

They all have their good points, and many of the differences are the author's idea. The movie is worth it just for the dolphin song imo.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not much competition since there weren't any other tv adaptations

I have some VERY good news. You are totally, unquestionably wrong. https://www.piggy.co.uk/the-hitchhikers-guide

When people say "how's it going", I say "Can't complain. Well, I could, but nobody ever listens, so you may as well not bother, and me with this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side"...nobody ever gets it.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Zaphod's just this guy, ya know?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It should take one Altarian penny deposited into a long-term savings account for you to generate enough interest for it to pay for your meal by the time the universe ends

The cow was played by the Fifth Doctor - Peter Davison

Hey it's that guy who's his own father-in-law.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And he was married to Sandra Dickinson, the actress that played Trillian.

Reminds me of Genesis Rising: God had so much beef with a sentient rock that he created other life forms (where the only life form was supposed to be the sentient rock) and then expanded the universe beyond the reach of said sentient rock out of sheer spite.

One of the truly great opening lines to any book, radio series, TV show, film, stage play.......

Everybodys talk shite

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is a phenomenal book series with some just awful film and television adaptations.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It's a phenomenal radio play, with numerous reworkings in other media formats with varying degree's of quality.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If you are going to come here talking smack about the TV series then there is going to be a problem. And it is, for the originalists, a radio show.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

This comment just Fits in perfectly....

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

(for the non-UK/radio geeky things, BBC Radio shows are known as "Fits", so the first HitchHikers are Fits 1-6)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Niche comment. I approve entirely.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Friend of mine used to work for BBC OB repairs before they were spun off into it's own company, so lots of weird inside terms are in my head

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait. I didn't know there's an older movie of it. What is this picture from?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There was a TV series in 1981.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_(TV_series) The radio show was deemed "unfilmable"..... but they went and filmed it anyway. It is quite wonderful and one of the best ways to experience that part of the six part trilogy....... ummm.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

The BBC TV series. That's the one I'm familiar with; they showed it on PBS a million years ago.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

6 part mini-series from BBC. I have a copy with 2 VHS tapes and it includes the first book.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Includes as in came with a copy of, or covers the material from? Because it covers the second book too.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Has a copy of the first book in the same box as the VHS cassettes.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope they have a G&T or something like that.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They have Jinyan Tonnix, I believe

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Before or after you get out of the bath?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wasn't there a whisky and soda as well? I haven't read it for decades.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The part I was referring to was that nearly everybody had a drink that was like a gin amd tonic.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know. It drive people nuts. And then they gathered and had a drink called whiskey and soda but spelled completely different.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The UK series was 1000 times better than the movie.

2 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 7

Note: The UK TV series was based on the BBC Radio Show, that being is the original incarnation of THGG (even before the books) The UK TV series mostly used the same talent as the Radio show, and so those were the people in Douglas Adams mind as he finalized and tweaked the dialogue.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The movie is what got many new viewers into the franchise. Even if the series are indeed better, do not dismiss the movie.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The dolphin bit was FAR superior in the series vs. The new movie.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Movie was fun too. different, but fun.

2 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 2

Still would have loved to see their take on the sequels

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

out of the other 4 books of the trilogy

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

every iteration is different, but I love them all

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Agreed

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The original radio play is the best version and I WILL fight about this.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Not sure who you're going to fight. :-)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably Vogons, as bad a decision as that would be.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got the MP3's long long ago and they have moved many times from many different devices to be always with me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's it called and where can I find it? I need to add to my library

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not going to argue. It's a mystery to me why it doesn't get the attention the books (which are admittedly great) do. I had read the books for decades and was only vaguely aware of the radio play that they came from. When I finally listened to the radio version I was blown away and couldn't believe what I'd been missing.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Overall, yeah it was a let down, but the casting overall was spot on I think. Martin, Sam, Bill, and Most were all absolutely perfect for their rolls. Zooey was good too, but I think they wrote her too ditsy compared to the books (e.g. writing, not her). And Alan was so perfect for Marvin that I hear his voice when I read the books now.

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

People who refer to actors by just their first names as if they're friends are weird, change my mind.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I really warmed up to Zooey Deschanel as trillium. Mos Def I outright loathed at first but I found as I watched his performance a few times found him to be an inspired choice

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

*Trillian - damn autocorrect

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ugh. Mos. Not Most. Stupid autocorrect :-(

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yasiin*

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huh. I had no idea. I like him and his work, but I clearly don't follow him closely. Thanks. I'll try to remember.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's actually touring with Erykah Badu right now.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what makes it so baffling. He had all the elements, but still fell flat.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It started well too. Felt like it went off the rails when they got picked up by Zaphod and Trillian and just never regained it's footing even when it went back to matching the book (e.g. Slarti and Earth 2.0).

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think Sam Rockwell was a bit I don't know violent for the choice of zaphod. He usually didn't do things out of malice, usually just out of sheer mindlessness.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a lot to fit into a single movie to be fair.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think they shouldn't have tried. Five books in the trilogy, five movies.
