Wasn't this just Bernie Goetz?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a modern Todd Phillips remake.

CAN YOU DIG IT?

Read the book, just a bit different from the movie.

Add a third scene, the Men in Black 2 scene with Jeff

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The opening credits to that movie is the basis to all the GTA Opening Credits, Rockstar even made a Warriors game.

One thing about AI - if they can do it right and not screw everyone over, they could make some awesome cross overs. Like Lloyd Christmas and Ace Ventura team up to stp the Grinch and meet up with Stanley Ipkis along the way.

I was expecting Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.

Now do one with Charlie Bronson (and his fookin rope) versus Michael Jackson's gang in "Beat It"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just rewatched "The Warriors" last week. Just as good as I remembered.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What movie is the bottom one?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Charles Bronson, probably in Death Wish

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is this the train to Bronson, Missouri? "No dice."

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yup … 1200 mile long subway. 😜

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Warriors…. Come out to play

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Warriors was banned in many cities, including Boston where I lived. When I was visiting my cool uncle in NYC he took me to see it. Still my favorite uncle.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I would not.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ohhh he would have had to work for that if they kept him from getting out the shooter. Warriors had some toughness

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do I remember someone pulling a molotov out of their afro or is that some kind of drug-induced fever dream?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It may have been from the video game

No u <3

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They probably would’ve teamed up.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The imagery made me think, "Bronson meets the Guardian Angels". Totally would have teamed up with the Guardian Angels. For the curious, the GA we're these groovy vest wearing dudes that outwardly presented as gang-affiliated, but served as guardians and stewards of the needy back when NYC was a feckin' cesspool of violence (more than it is now).

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

nah, they were publicity hounds

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The GA? My wife's mother was on the subways in NYC in that era (from the Bronx) and had nothing but praises. You were there - genuinely curious what stories were lost to time?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was there back then I only visited NYC occasionally but my sister lived there. The guardian angels were not bad people but it was mostly a gimmick that got overblown by the tabloids

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. Thanks for the insight!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paul only shot muggers and The Warriors weren't muggers.

2 years ago | Likes 227 Dislikes 0

Might have rode along to plug them Sherpas

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure Ajax mugged people.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NY gang and not muggers........you really sure about this

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought his name was death wish

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It is now.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

"wasn't", as in "...the Warriors wasn't muggers"... do you even speak New York?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, I only speak English and a smattering of Swahili.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I heard on the radio that they killed someone..

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

It always bothered me that the DJ was like “lol oops” but how many of those rival gangs are still listening to the radio at 5am or whenever they got back to Coney? Unless they’re saying it between every few songs for the next full day, the Warriors are still going to be getting shit.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I get why it would bother you but there's also no indication that the DJ *doesn't* do that, since the movie ends at that point. Plus I feel like if they have a city-wide radio communication system for the gangs, they probably have pretty decent communication in general.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Wellll, they didn't mug anyone during the events of the movie, anyway... don't ask what Ajax was up to...

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Ajax was a jackass.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

A-Jaxass

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yes. Ajax was proven to be a rapist as he wouldn't take No for an answer. The Death Wish character absolutely would hunt and shoot a rapist.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Not like the other Warriors would care much. He was a loose canon since the start of the film. Not bad to have as an ally for fights but he showed he didn't want to listen to Swan so, he got what he got.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What's the top image from? I don't remember!

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

If there only was some hint to the name of the movie in the picture itself!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

The Warriors, great movie.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Xenophon's Anabasis

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's technically correct!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Warriors from 1979.

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Just finished watching it, I had never seen that film before. It was fucking amazing! Apart from the F Slurs I would recommend it to everyone

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd recommend it to anyone BECAUSE of the slurs. Your children hears worse around the playgrounds. Also - don't you people have freedom of expression ?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! How about the bottom one?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"Death Wish"

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s a fantastic film. I wanted the join the Baseball Fury’s when I was a kid, even though they got their asses kicked ….

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I dressed as one for Halloween when I was 13! Had the jersey and everything!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I really like the whole themed gang idea. Love to see the same idea done today. Honestly, you could do a retro future thing that would be pretty cool.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Buncha wimps…

They were cool, I went trick or treating as a Baseball Fury one year, and the Roller-skate guy in the bibs another year.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see this movie referenced just enough to be curious. How well does it hold up these days?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So good, try to find the theatrical version though. The director’s cut adds some wonky transitions.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My partner and I watch it at least yearly. It holds up decently in our opinion. There is some crude language.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's cheese, but really yummy cheese

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bronson would STOMP those guys! Have you seen his movies?

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 10

That handgun was for hunting elephants. Jeez

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ajax was the only Warrior who would have been dangerous to civilians. Non of them were going to fuck around with anyone in other gangs' turf if they could help it.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

They're neoconservative backlash to a general liberalization going on during the 70s. It's fussy baby boomer nonsense about how they'd kick all the ass if their back wasn't causing trouble...

2 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 14

Meanwhile, O-Sensei Kano Jigoro, the founder of Judo, was at the end of his life a frail old man who needed a cane.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the instant he stepped onto the mat, he was throwing people continuously despite his age and infirmity. Boomers complained.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why they give up at seemingly the slightest inconvenience. If an old master can still fight, they're just spoiled brats.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now I feel like my response would be "I wouldn't sit on those benches because my back is causing trouble..."

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ohhhhh, so that's why my long dead grandpappy loved his movies !

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Okay but I still like Bronson.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

The 1970s and 80s had some of the highest rates of urban violent crime in American history. I think the Bronson movies were more of a reaction to that than anything else. This was before ppl started moving back to cities in the mid 90s when the tech industry started to boom. Most major cities today are WAY safer than they were 40 ish years ago.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

Weird how it turned out the solution was not blowing people's heads off but banning lead from petrol.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ooh, ooh, you know why? Because cop budgets were bankrupting cities.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The first one was very restrained and thoughtful about vigilantes and crime. The last couple were cartoonishly violent.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The 'violent big city' movie trend was pretty popular (these days it's mostly super heroes creating havoc in the city). The Exterminator - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080707/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_the%2520exterminatorr - was a pretty good one, then ofc there's the dystopia versions, like 'Escape From New York'. I like the Warriors though, it's got a certain charm.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which is strange, no one so far has marked the cause for the crime and violence spikes other than one that tracks with lead in gasoline and house hold materials.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Society is a very complex interaction. One mistake many people make is to search for a single cause, not for a complex interaction where many cofactors come together and interact with each other.
There will be no one thing that caused it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course, but studies have been trying to chase down contributing factors, and from what I recall in the past, that was listed as one of the better ones. Again, a lot was unclear.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're right that it's a very strong case.

David Patrick Kelly improvised that line on the spot, which was based on his personal experiences at the hands of a local bully in NY. It's the most-quoted line in the entire film!

Great reference :> (The Argument, Paradise Lost Book IV, when the two cherubim were like 'yo Satan you're an asshole and also you're ugly" and Satan was like "screw you guys y'all are mean also I'll have my own heaven with blackjack and hookers."

True story.

Fun Fact: The Warriors is a retelling of Xenophons Anabasis, a classical greek work about the perilous journey home from Mesopotamia of an army of greek mercenaries.

Explains some of the names

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Coyle's 'The 10000' is another.

Fun fact: "Romeo + Juliet" starring Leonardo DiCaprio & Claire Danes is based on "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would go so far that it's a blatant rip off. They didn't even bother to change the names!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hear the reporduction for stage theater was pretty good tho!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh bullshit, next you're gonna be telling me "West Side Story" is a ripoff of something old.

Oh bullshit, next you'll be telling me Walt Disney's 2019 live action epic "The Lion King" is a ripoff of something old.

Yes, of Intrigue and Love by Friedrich Schiller of course. Everybody knows that.

Oh bullshit, next you're gonna be telling me "O Brother, Where Art Thou" is a ripoff of something old.

Actually, yes… it’s a retelling of tragic Ancient Greek tale about a romance between a Greek dancing soldier in the Athenian Dancing Division and the Daughter of a Persian general in their Tap Dancing Army… it’s a little different though because the original had a lot more rapping and hip hop, but it’s basically just different costumes and names in the end.

Funner fact, Hamlet is a retelling of Strange Brew, a classic Canadian movie.

2 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Funnest fact: During the Brandywine Bridge scene in "Fellowship of the Ring", Dominic Monaghan (Merry) got a giant wooden splinter in his foot that almost killed him due to blood loss.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok, eh.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, that's The Lion King. Strange Brew was the inspiration for the Epic of Gilgamesh.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

No you're thinking of the iconic curling flick, Men With Brooms

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's been years since I've seen the movie. But doesn't Warriors start off directly referencing the march out of Persia?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Dunno, but the radio lady from John Wick 4 is homage to Warriors radio DJ

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the directors cut it does

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I have never seen the movie. When i first stumbled over it, i found it was adapted from a book 1965 that was a retelling of Anabasis in a contemporary NY gang setting. NY gangs in the 60s actually had this kind of wild styles going on. There's an old docu on Youtube somewhere that led me to the Warriors movie in the first place. Anyways, that's how that book landed on my reading list.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

One of my favorite films. There’s a scene where a guy gets hit in the ribs with a baseball bat that makes me wince every time.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Warriors is number 2 on my top 3 list. First one is The last Dragon with Taimak as Leroy Green, My third favorite is The Wanderers - 3 classics. I'm unsure if The Last Dragon is my #1 because of the music or the movie itself. The way it's scripted, it always reminds me of the first Superman movies with Christopher Reeve. I'm partial to the music, because that was the type of music i was DJ'ing on a few clubs around the city at the time. (Shows age, i know)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't lie to yourself. Last Dragon is top of the list because in 1985, Vanity was probably the sexiest human being on the planet. Well, that's my reason, anyhow
