'Swastikas used in the making of the hit Amazon series The Man in the High Castle have been “proudly destroyed” since production ended, one of its stars has confirmed.

Actor Chelah Horsdal posted a video on Twitter that showed a leather prop with a swastika drawn on it being cut into miniature pieces.

The pieces are then shown being thrown into boxes. A message reading “Burn Pile” then appears on screen.

“Super satisfying,” Horsdal wrote. “Reminder that High Castle proudly destroyed all the swastikas that were produced for the show.”

In a second tweet, Horsdal confirmed that props used in the show depicting symbols of the Japanese Rising Sun had also been destroyed. “All flags and symbols that were in any way offensive or sensitive: destroyed,” she wrote.

Not all of Horsdal’s followers were happy about the video, however, with some claiming that the swastikas could have been recycled, potentially for use in additional film and television productions.'

(Yeah, no....)

We just started watching this and I commented to my wife that I wondered how they kept control of the nazi props and if they kept them from disappearing after filming. This is good to know - thanks!

I can see how they would be able to reuse them for additional productions. HOWEVER...I also think they did the right thing in destroying them, to make a point that even Hollywood isn't keeping Nazi memorabilia around unless it is actively being used to make a point about how awful the Nazis were.

Burn swastikas, not books

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Burning the nazis themselves is also acceptable.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I agree :)

I think we should cut out the middle man and man hours. Just start burning nazis. Their ideas and traitor tags burn and fuse with their corpse. No individual graves. Just one in the worst garbage dump on the US.

We made a Nazi-biker short film and there were some swaztikas we made for the baddies. We trashed em.

If you're wearing a swastika I assume you're either currently acting in a role where your character gets shot, or you are not acting and can extrapolate for missing information.

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Anybody actively wearing a swastika (and not clearly on a movie set) is fair fucking game.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same with anybody flying klan colours (the ‘rebel flag’) or has any ‘don’t tread on me’ crap.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Swastikas being recycled is the current theme in the US, so no.

In 2018, in a friends mom's coin hoard, I found a Reichsmark. When I posted on FB asking how to destroy it. A formerly very close friend insisted and even argued I don't because it's part of history. We parted ways for unrelated reasons. I deleted FB in 2020. Last year before the election I found out her profile picture was a certain photo from a certain event in mid July in Butler PA. Shouldn't be hard to guess which.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

/gallery/Z2p7Pg1#RK6kMSa all for the burn pile

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

This seems very inefficient. You'd get much better results if you gathered them all up in one spot and destroyed them in large groups. Then you can throw them all back together and burn them.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Goose-stepping morons like yourselves should try reading books instead of burning them.” Burn that shit my friends

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed that it shouldn’t be reused as that just assures someone in the industry will get the idea to then sell it on eBay and it’ll be back representing the worst of humans.

Recycle? Some think that a material embodies what it was built for and remembers. Does this happen? I'd think no. But sometimes, don't take the risk.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm sure there's a funny joke to be made about this in german, but they seem ti be missing their writers and comedians

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Re: re-using or recycling, I *kinda* get the point. If someone got the idea to turn "The Sound of Music" into an Amazon mini-series down the road, I can't imagine greeting the idea of working on new swastika props with any kind of enthusiasm.

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Ive heard its traditional for productions of The Sound of Music to destroy the Nazi uniforms at the end of the run.

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Hogan's Heroes could not be made today.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Trivia: when they filmed scenes of Sound of Music in Salzburg, some older people became very frightened by the nazi flags hanging on bldgs

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Here's the unfortunate truth of the matter; you can ALWAYS make new Nazi props for media.
The up side of that is there's no reason to ever keep your Nazi props.

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's likely cheaper to remake them anyway. Screen props are not made to be archival. So storing them in an archival manner is expensive. Especially true when you don't know when they're going to be used next. Next year? In five years? Never?

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The current presidency? I wouldn't be surprised if PeeWee Himmler wears a Nazi armband under his jacket.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The problem I would think is Nazi swag is always worth something to someone. There's no way you could store it and not come back to like half it it missing

3 months ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Yeah but like, anyone who cares that much about Nazi stuff… is just gonna make their own Nazi stuff?

Like people can make their own stuff, that’s how they did it the very first time

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Nazis are, more or less, bad people. They likely arent up to any good, ever. They would be more than willing to break in, and steal stuff, than work on anything of their own. Then, when you go to the storage location, half or more of the shits missing, cuz Nazis stole it, and you gotta make more anyway, thus defeating the purpose, and basically giving more nazi paraphernalia to said nazis.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You're not wrong, but make them spend their own money on it, don't use production costs for Nazi's to fill out their equipment.

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah yeah but have you also considered that there is *absolutely* a theater company getting ready to do The Sound of Music live that *also* could have used it?

Probably not, because no one thinks about theater anymore

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Eh, a lot of those old musicals have really bad premises. The sound of music is one of them. And I don't mean it being set during Nazi occupation is the bad premise, that's just history of the area.

From what I've seen of old musicals they're ripe with: sexism, kidnappings, Stockholm syndrome, bad people getting good things to happen to them and living happily ever after, glorifying rape, etc. Some are worse than others, but I dont think i saw a single one where one of those things wasnt a

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk, i feel like Spielberg or someone, preferably Jewish, should just have a Hollywood Nazi stash to recreate everything. Because while everyone is like it's "it's good not to hold on to it!" I feel like I'm the only one that realized it also means they have to make that many more for the next production featuring a very popular historic period. Like I personally think ordering a 1000 Nazi flags is worse than storing and renting out 100 Nazi flags to ethical productions ten times.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Honestly i agree with this. And yeah there is a lot of storage of stuff for that exact reason as well.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, this is why prop houses, etc., exist. It's wasteful to destroy props that could easily be used for future productions. I understand the sentiment of destroying them, but generally speaking, that's not a great use of resources or eco friendly.

When this show was airing, they made these propaganda posters to promote the show for a resistance-oriented radio station to fight the Nazis.

Trump supporters complained, believing the posters were about them.

Trump also wanted to have a blacks vs. whites season of The Apprentice.

Yup. Or when Farcry 5 (I think) had a literal cult as the enemy and they thought it was explicitly about them.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's always entertaining to post something about telling Nazis to get the fuck out of somewhere, and Republicans coming in saying 'You can't just call everyone you disagree with a Nazi'. Like...we're talking about kicking out people wearing swastikas, why are you defending them?

Say you hate nazis.
Wait for someone to argue with that concept.

You've found the nazi.

Closet nazis

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

nah donate it to a reputable museum. if its a legit historical relic let the future learn of the horrors and see the flag of the perpetrators.

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Right and that would be not keeping it *in your home*.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You need to keep artifacts of that time so that people can see that these horrible times have really happened, and aren't just black-and-white archive footages and texts in a book. Of course, context matters - I wouldn't trust Elon Musk to handle Nazi memorabilia.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I wonder if there is a list of TV shows with *satisfying* last seasons and endings. I know I watch very few TV shows and often wait till they are finished before I start, meaning that's less than one a year !

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Stargate SG1 Especially if you consider Season 8 as the end of SG1 and seasons 9/10 as the two seasons of the spinoff they were planned to be. Don’t get me wrong, 9/10 are great and with the ark and truth and continuum movies still have a fun and satisfying ending. but there is something special about how S8 (which was planned as a finale) wrapped things up. then we got bonus content after!!

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sense8 got canceled, fans got pissed, so they made a movie to wrap everything up

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cheers and M*A*S*H had "satisfying" endings

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Interesting list. Don't know that I agree about Angel, but The Good Place is one of the best pieces of art that our species has ever produced, and the ending is absolute perfection.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think Babylon 5 ended well, but it's been a long time since I saw it. And just recently thought about re-watching it, no streamer has it (here at least). The rips on "alternative" sites are.... pretty dogshit quality honestly, unless your willing to download 5Gb/episode bluray rip which is supposed to be "a bit better".

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah the last season was.... Bad

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

It just dawned on me that it's probably intentional. If you want to be done with a project, you need to jump the shark otherwise fans are going to harass you to come back to it until the end of days.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

That's the point. It's not lost on me and I hated it. I don't believe it's lost on ANYONE. Especially when it's been explicitly pointed out. And I'm not the one who made claims about it first. You're not special to figure out it's sarcasm, and that doesn't make it good even if you felt a tingle. It's just kinda shit. That's all there is to it.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I was gonna post my opinion on what I think is the only valid reason to have a swastika but im pretty sure it'd get me banned seeing as talking about un-aliving people is generally frowned upon

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 31

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it". Telling stories has been and continues to be one of - if not the best - way of passing our history down to the next generation. A blanket ban on all things Nazi would naturally include things like the graphic novel 'Maus' or the movie 'Schindler's List', and I'm sure that's not what you want. What matters is how we treat these things, and "publically burning Nazi symbology when the production wraps" is a very good treatment.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

As far as I'm concerned, there is never a valid reason to own a swastika. We have pictures of them, we don't need physical materials. I don't care if your grandfather took it from a nazi he killed, burn that shit. Burn it all.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I know people have an emotinal repulsion against the (nazi) swastika, but what would be wrong with owning a piece of history like the example you gave? We also have confederate flags, old war memorabilia (guns, ammo, etc.), other symbols or flags (hammer and sickel, etc.) that we keep as part of history. Do you have a good reason why the nazi swastika is any different, or is it just an emotional response?

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

What are your thoughts on someone, say, having a little library of souvenirs from child rapists? Little bits of the children's clothing or baby teeth.
Is that okay or would it elicit an emotional response?

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Museums exist.
The only people who keep nazi memorabilia in their homes are closeted (and open) nazis.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

For one- because of what nazis represent, the hatred behind their so-called beliefs.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can't believe there are people who think owning anything shit like this is okay.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My question specifically asked what the difference was. If you say that those things are unacceptable because the ideology behind it is hateful, does that mean that anything from an ideology that is considered hateful should not be acceptable?

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The beginning of all evil powers in history starts with burning stuff and persecuting those with views that differ to our own. You deny humans of something and you end up making it more appealing. Look at drugs and alcohol. Prohibition made them more popular.
