When I was a heroin addict, the late bus refused to take me because I was ten cents short of the fare. It was 3 am in downtown Philly (which, weirdly enough, gets darker and scarier than the ghetto) in the middle of a snowstorm. A taxi driver picked me up and drove me back to North Philly for free, and I was just so shocked, like, "You like...aren't gonna ask me for a bj or anything?" I have never witnessed the good in people so much as when I was a homeless addict.
Being a caretaker to a cancer patient is so hard and exhausting. Having people who stick it out with you is such a blessing of love. My fiancé did so much for me, and I only hope I spend the rest of my life showing how grateful I am.
first of all, I consider this a moral tale. its only goal is to remind people that a small gesture goes a long way. everybody is going though something. With that, this story has to have been retold for decades. I mean, 2 sundaes for $10?
To nip this in the bud because it gets talked about every time: As an Uber Driver you can mark a ride complete at any time and the passenger only pays for the distance traveled, not the original estimate of the full ride. "Turn off the meter" simply puts that action into everyday vernacular that we can understand. I understand why he said it but it's caused more confusion than it sought to avoid.
When it was my time to ring that bell, afterwards some of the staff commented that that was the hardest they've ever heard anyone ring it. So much pent up anger and frustration at everything happening and the sheer.... Joy? Relief? That that portion, at least, was over had me feeling a certain kind of way.
I would've just said the ice cream part first.... idk why the need to bait and switch what might have gone through someone's head after saying they weren't taking her home....
I have an outreach clinic an hour and a half away from my home twice a month. I bring a freezer bag every time and stop at this local ice cream place that is only in this town. Over the next 2-3 days I make stops to drop off ice cream for my hometown office, colleagues, and family. I freaking love that I get to do it every other week.
Absolutely, brag, don't brag, it was still a good thing... Just don't fucking video record it! Whatever about a "Hey, this thing just happened" ... But a "Look at my phone" is a dick move, imo
If they're bragging about it *anonymously* (which they are, unless *you* know who "CrazyVibes" is), they're not doing it for brownie points. And I think promoting acts of kindness supports the public good, so go for it, CrazyVibes!
Some call it bragging, others call it taking a lead. You're entitled to talk about the good shit you do and with luck it'll result in others doing similarly good shit. God knows the other end of the moral spectrum have little fucking reluctance in broadcasting the horrible things they do.
Tell her I'm sending every positive vibe I can. I lost my sister a year ago to cancer but she went down swinging. I hope your gorgeous wife knows you love her even if she's vomiting or irritable or having those awful skin lesions. And that you'll be by her side whatever comes, and I hope you two ring her bell together when she beats this. ❤️
My wife is an oncology nurse. If you ever need help finding resources or support groups, for you and her, feel free to message me and I can get you in contact with the people who can help.
For me, fortunately, chemo didn't bother me much. Radiation, on the other hand... that was absolutely brutal on me. Even more fortunately, I'm clean now! Sending your wife tons of positive vibes! Stay with her, be there for her. It means more to her than words can speak of - trust me, I know from experience!
My partner has just finished Chemo and goes for her PET scan to confirm that is gone on Wednesday. I won't say its been easy, but it never crossed my mind to leave her, I don't understand that mentality.
My mom has gone through chemo and is still taking maintenance infusions, but shes doing way better now than she was a year ago. It does lead to better times.
Don’t care. It is a hopeful story about helping another fellow human in need. Regardless of the truth, it a good lesson in humanity that is needed nowadays
Don't the anti-kidnapping features of the driver apps for both Uber and Lyft make this not quite so simple? Unsolicited interruption of a trip while still carrying the passenger (which the rider's app can detect) surely triggers some safety alerts?
LeoGrun19401
And her ride was free because the GPS data would show she was kidnapped.
gndgndgbd
That driver is beyond goated.
yamsonyamsonyams
This post is fake - there is no meter for driving uber.
And if your Uber driver disables tbe app mid-ride, they are not taking you for ice cream.

It's weird that ringing the bell is positive in things like chemo, but in other contexts ringing the bell means you've given up and are quitting.

Turned off the meter? Uber doesn't have a meter......

Same. It sucks knowing you can’t do that much to make her feel better. I’m an “I can fix that” guy, and I can’t fix this.

You can mark a ride over at any time, and then go on a break, these are features of the app, you can look it up if you want.

MithridateEupator
Yea but to me it smacks of an AI generated story that can't keep "story tropes that cab drivers can use" out of an uber story.
Hawkgirl203
Yes! You can cancel a ride via the app, but there are no meters in Ubers, only in cabs.
