I keep coming to the picture in my head where Ron would motorboat himself a few times, raise his head and say, "Bloody hell, Harry! This is fantastic!" And then resume motorboating.

You think they weren't polyjuicing themselves to see what the other sex was like? I know I would've.

Which one. A person can't be all of them. And honestly, that's your read of it, fine, but I don't think it's a common one.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok am I being downvoted for homophobes or did I say something that in context is offensive to HP fans?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Probably because a) clearly people just don't agree with you. B) J. K. is an awful woman who almost definitely would not have written snape as lgbt, so you're likely just projecting your own feelings onto a character, and trying to make the claim that any of her characters are lgbt is giving a bigot credit that they don't deserve.

At least, that's why i downvoted.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Severus Snape? The man whose ENTIRE motivation was his infatuation with a woman? Literally she is the only reason he did anything.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I'm bisexual, and I'm not the only type of LGBTQ+ person who's attracted to people who identify with a different gender than them. But this confusion might be why some people are downvoting me too, thanks for the tip.

Lore wise, the body transformation stuff was probably just kinda hard to do.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

In the books, Hermione gets her front teeth grown by a curse, then shrunk very slowly by the nurse.

Hermione also later makes Harry's face swell up so the Death Eaters don't recognize him.

It seems like it's difficult to do with any accuracy. If Rowling weren't such a TERF, it'd probably be something that St Mungos could do reasonably well, but not something your average student could pull off with "genderus reverso".

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was literally an entire class of wizards that could casually transform themselves into animals and back. Everything from Rita whom could become a beetle or Peter becoming a rat to larger animals like Serrius becoming a large dog or Harry's father beginning a stag. It seems hard to say that turning into some random animal is easier than slightly modifying your human appearance, and that's not considering the whole metamorph thing Tonks could just naturally do without even a wand.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Animagi were incredibly rare and had to register with the Ministry. Only four are named in the books.

Metamorphmagi, what Tonks could do, is an innate gift. It's not something you learn, and it was also exceptionally rare.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tt's a bit of a main character thing happening, but being able to transform into animals was a rare thing compared to how represented it is in the serie.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

You say that but it's canon that Sirius, James, and Peter all made the decision to just learn to change into animals, in secret, without registering, and all succeeded so it doesn't seem like that hard a thing to figure out if you try. If you were actually trans and determined to gender swap yourself, especially if it were publicly with help why would that be so much harder short of the author's own biases?

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Not casually. If I remember correctly, it was difficult and quite rare, even for wizards.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As I said in reply to another comment, Sirius, James, and Peter all made the choice to just teach themselves to do it, in secret, unregistered, without help and all succeeded. It's pretty repeatedly presented that anyone that's seriously tried to learn has learned to do so successfully with or without help and instruction.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes but they were presented as talented wizards, even at that age, and they have a main-character-plot-armor that make them unabled to fail what they attempted.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also I agree with your comment on the other person's reply, about the author's own bias.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ok private tutoring from dumbledore may have played a part, but still lots of protagonist energy trope in the series

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Private tutoring from Dumbledore, and Lupin. Not to mention hands on experience every year with some horrible threat to his continued existence. Harry strikes me as someone who has natural talent but doesn't usually apply himself. Ron isn't naturally gifted at magic and also doesn't apply himself.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a world where poly juice potion exists and can apparently be brewed by middle school children (in an environment with remarkably little adult supervision, it really should be noted), there is an astounding lack of sexual exploration. I’ll let the rest of you extrapolate the rest without being explicit (and ending up on several government watch lists). Seriously. 8th graders and high schoolers? Oh my god

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

"Can apparently be brewed by middle school children"

Hermione was a prodigy. Neither Harry nor Ron would have had a prayer of brewing it.

They also stole ingredients from Snape. And keep in mind, Barty Crouch Jr also had to steal the Boomslang Skin from Snape, which means it's either restricted or rare enough that you can't just pop down to Hogsmeade and get some.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iirc the main ingredients were restricted and had to be stolen. Also that was the brightest middle schooler they had and it only worked 2/3 times

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It also took a *Month*. People keep acting like they just whipped it up in the afternoon. It took time and effort, and was said to be hard.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let's be honest, the main use would be porn of other people or using it to have sex with people under the appearance of someone you're obsessed with.
Like you get your hair stolen and suddenly there's a hardcore porno of you.

I remember reading that chapter for the first time and thinking “damn, now everyone knows whats up with harrys junk”

1 year ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 0

That was my overarching thought. The whole time I understand the gravity of the situation, but also you have Hermione going to sit on a broom and have to make a decision about junk placement. And then all I could think about was, "do I give them a heads up?" I mean, for me it'd be "it prefers to go left, you may even notice a slight, perfectly normal 'yaw' to the left, but don't worry, once we're in the thick of it, it'll pull a scared turtle and go into hiding.

1 year ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

That feels like reading a bit too much into it. You take a girl like Fleur, a beautiful adult French woman, who’s basically part Siren, who is obsessed with her looks, suddenly turning into a skinny, somewhat lanky teenage English boy? I don’t blame her for feeling that way.

1 year ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 3

I mean, if you wanna go fully down the rabbit hole, what she'd likely be experiencing in that moment is dysphoria. Turns out, if a cis person was shoved into a body of a different gender, they would experience the same dysphoria us trans folks do, and it has even happened to actors. Rowling isn't a good enough writer to know that, and wouldn't have conveyed it well even if she was, but that is where that knee jerk reaction comes from.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is a great way to put it. Im a cis het dude and, sure, if I woke up tomorrow as a woman, it would be interesting, maybe fun for a bit, but I think it after the initial excitement wore off id want to be back in my own skin. Is that a result of biology or psychology? No idea. Doesn’t matter. It’s not my user settings, I’m not comfortable with it, put it back. Being trans is no different than being left handed, and we stopped beating lefties centuries ago.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean yeah, her being self absorbed and thinking everything around her was inferior was her primary personality trait.

1 year ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 9

We talking about Rowling?

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Now that's just offensive. To self absorbed twats who think everyone else inferior. Those are bad but this is still just uncalled for.
