In yesterdays edition, the german newspaper "Zeit" showed this picture of the Kaaba at Mekka. Usually the place is crowded with people circling this most sacred place of islam.

Thank goodness they are taking this seriously. It’s so contagious.

Wow I’ve never seen a picture that shows the ground before.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

Huh, so that's what the ground looks like

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always wanted to know what's inside there

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wild

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

1st time I saw the kaaba was in an Islam community, as ppl's avatars. I didn't understand why so many Muslims had tiramisu as their avatars.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where’s the sacred meteorite?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Glad they are taking it serious.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm so uncultured. Seen this photo before and thought it was a skating rink... My apologies to Islam.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Imagine going all the way to Mecca n your once in a lifetime pilgrimage to touch the Kaaba. You get there.. and temporarily fenced off.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

They might cancel it this year- it's in July I think.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finally I can beat the crowds

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Looks like a sweet skating rink brah.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never seen this without the whirlpool of Muslims around it. Pretty cool photo.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So...its not a skating park?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I just realised that the Kaaba looks like a Borg Cube.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

People like to kiss the kaaba. I cant imagine how quik it would spread there

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least noone gets trampled this year.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's dumb. Clearly Allah would not allow the faithful to become sick while they hang out at his favorite place, right?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Seems to me that those that are staying away are not true believers, and should be stoned.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Like the Roman Catholics in Italy, yeah.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the bible has a verse basically saying "don't be an idiot and follow anything without thinking". Maybe Qur'an is similar

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This whole time I thought it was a solid piece of rock or something.....

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I thought Allah protected his flock.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

Is this room normally ever empty? Or are people there 24/7?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see people below those arcs and on the second floor... maybe they’re disinfecting the terrace

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Why? Allah won’t let his devout followers get sick /s

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 14

But Saudi Arabia also banned all pilgrimages to Mekka over the COVID-19. https://time.com/5796035/coronavirus-saudi-arabia-iran-islam-mecca/

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Saudi Arabia restricted pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina almost a month ago. It wasn’t like this was a surprise.

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I'm honestly glad they are staying safe. Smarter than we in the USA, apparently. -.-

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Saudi actually started a travel ban from other countries not too long before the US started. They go with it versus freaking out about it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes well reason and science prevent disease, not prayer.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Now's our chance to test out that rock! Seriously, scientists are interested in doing tests on the meteor in that thing but it's off limits.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Still is

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Apparently someone did and I remember it to be some kind of a glass rock of earthly origin.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Username casts doubt on accuracy

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Do not judge a man by his name

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you’re naming yourself un-ironically after gay frogs AJ, imma doubt everything you say.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d be interested in your source for that info.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey that things that millions of people touch? Maybe don’t for a bit.

6 years ago | Likes 200 Dislikes 6

I think you meant 'lick'

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 14

I bet a lot of ppl do

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Oh sure, when Muslims do that it's called 'religion'. When I do that to the thing I worship it's called sexual harassment of women. Bah.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

People dont touch the Kaaba - they walk around it a couple times and do some other stuff around Mekka and Medina as part of their pilgrimage

6 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 8

Like coughing and spreadin disease and prayin to be cured from a disease just to get a new one. (I am a horrible person)

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

The circle of life

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They do! The stone is super worn down bc of all the rubbing.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That might be new. I was raised Muslim (not anymore) and I went on the pilgrimage when I was about 10 or so and I very vividly remember (1)

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

My family and I had our hands pressed on it well my dad said a prayer

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I stand corrected. You should know more about it than me. After a quick image search quite some people indeed seem to get right up to 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

and passionately touch the Kaaba. I thought it would be physically difficult for the whole crowd to do that. But again I prob am wrong. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gotta love the implicit concession that your god can't help you, only science can.

6 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 50

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Cue goD WOrKs THRough SCiENcE.

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 17

Most Christians also "believe" in Science. This ain't the 1600s, and only the minority Bible-thumpers are ignorant Creationists, etc.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've lived around those Bible thumpers most of my life. Minority is misleading, as they're a huge population that's very politically active.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a Muslim he does, islam says you cant deny science and that science is a vital part of islam and our religion, fanatics choose to ignore

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

So what about the all the science that shows that there is no Allah, or any kind of God? Do you deny that, or take it seriously?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The general message of most faiths is “God is going to sort it out in the end”, it’s the con artists that claim immediate rewards.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

I don't know if that's the general message, but if it is, it's grossly immoral. When do you mean in the end? Awful things are happening now.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

If I saw someone being raped I wouldn't call the police later so it's sorted out in the end, I'd try to stop it now.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Wow, way to take it out of context. I didn’t say to agree with them but you are TRYING to disagree by adding implications that aren’t there.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You need to re-read your post. YOU said stuff in a way that implied the replies you are getting.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a faith that teaches not to help people because their God will help them later? News to me.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I would say it teaches you to just shrug because "daddy will take care of it later". No, we have to deal with it now.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Which one teaches that? Or did you make it up because you don’t like them?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Or, that maybe you have the mental capacity to both understand science and maintain a strong faith.

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 12

You misspelled compartmentalization.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 11

Hey!You can still pray for lord's protection in an isolated germ free place where you have actual protection! No cognitive dissonance there!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Old saying (nit from bible): "The Lord helps those who help themselves." Meaning don't sit on your ass and expect miracles.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On a relevant note I believe that's of Greek origin where gods where fallible and often challenged and agency was a value above submission.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well one is based on facts and the other one is based on... well it's based on nothing.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

Faith. The word you're looking for is faith. Something I don't have personally about either the existence or non-existence of godly beings.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile. - vonnegut

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We get that you're an edgy atheist.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I mean, I'm an atheist too but that doesn't mean disrespecting other people

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I can't "prove" that you have a brain in your skyll unless I cut it open to see. We have faith in the Scientific Method, that information 1/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

which is consistently observed and is experimentally repeatable is true. The Old Testament is stories written down by human beings. 2/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And every Christan knows that except the minority, the Bible Thumpers. 3/3

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This is some real dumb shit. We can prove the existence of a brain in many ways. MRI's, CAT scans, X-rays, etc. And people do not have faith

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

in the scientific method. We trust it, because it has proven, repeatable results. Faith requires nothing more then mental illness.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They contradict each other.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 14

They do not. This ain't the 1600s. Most Christians know that the Bibe is a book of general guidance. Only Bible Thumpers take it literally 1

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and try to put "Creationism" in our schools. They are a vocal (and kinda crazy) minority. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Islam believes in science, some the great scientist and mathematician were muslims 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They have muslims looking into the big bang theory. Not all are crazy red necks. You are told to research if you question what you see.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The universe - god = universe.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You're not wrong, but universe+god=universe. By definition, universe±anything=universe.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I googled what the inside of the kabba looks like and what it’s historical significance is. Pretty cool.

6 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 4

Built by Ibrahim the father of prophets

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

There's some pretty significant debate on whether or not Mecca even existed prior to the rise of Islam. It's an interesting subject.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Indeed. I enjoyed Tom Hollands (historian) views on the matter. It is available on youtube. I recommend it.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same. Was quite an interesting read.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's a meteorite right? They worship a rock from space

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

didnt the Ancient Alien guy say it was a flying saucer or something? what did you read?

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Of course HE said that.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Basically, Abraham built it with his son Ishmael as the first house of worship by rules of Islamic monotheism

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

It was built by ADAM In the first place

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

What?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Abracadabra or some such thing. Ignore it.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And Abraham is considered in Islam to be the first Muslim.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Well, it IS an scp taht feeds on human flesh, normally sated by the flakes of millions...but now it will have to seek more... voluminous

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

portions, since the slow bleed of finger skin is no longer being provided. We should all fear the cube's cracking.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What scp is this

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What SCP are you referencing?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One I literally am making up on the spot?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, dang. I was hoping there was an actual flesh-hungry cube I could read up on, but I just now got what you meant

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is the wall around the Kaaba a new addition?

6 years ago | Likes 325 Dislikes 8

PEOPLE WERE LICKING IT. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-51819117

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Theres next to nothing I can find easily via google except that the only people near are people sanatising the area so possibly related.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Why does it have an A/C unit on it?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That is the roof access hatch/door.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Til the Cube is called the Kaaba. Thanks for that bit of information!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kaaba means cube, so you weren't wrong.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know. Maybe a temporary installation to close the place for the pilgrims, as Saudi Arabia banned all pilgrimage due to Corona.

6 years ago | Likes 187 Dislikes 1

It looks like temporary fencing to me

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

PEOPLE WERE LICKING IT. ‘"I'm not scared of coronavirus", before licking and kissing the gates’ https://www.bbc.com/news/world-51819117

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Nah that's Iran. The other Islam.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

iirc they were touching it all the time when circling. And if they don't want to spray it with disinfectant, just letting it decontaminate

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

by waiting

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Saudi here. That fencing is up because pilgrims will rub against and kiss the Ka'aba during the "Tawaf". It was recently disinfected though.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

They really hosed that thing down with disinfectant? Didn't think they would do that

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. There was a recently released a video of The Haram's imaam disinfecting the Ka'aba

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the clarification.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, it's temporary fencing. They're taking this opportunity to power wash the plaza and do some other maintenance. ...

6 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

Fence is there so the Kaaba doesn't get splashed, also help prevent unauthorized access.

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Probably helps deter unauthorized licking as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/fgrxpj

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Don’t want people to see behind the curtain now do we?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 27

Except we know what is inside the Kaaba.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More like keeping out vandals and looters.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

You'd have some balls to go and vandalize/loot from the kaaba... I imagine it wouldn't just be one hand lopped off...
