Furry is about the only community where I don't actively feel like an outsider. But there's a big difference between not feeling like you have to leave, and feeling like you're actually wanted.

This might sound vague but, only in my opinion the only acceptance I need is in my own mind to become a better person and try to find out people who share the same values, by focusing on yourself and growing and becoming stronger you can create a place where people around you feel accepted and vice versa.
Gryah
Have you tried therapy? Not just because there could be an undiagnosed disorder that messes with your perception, but also to work on your social skills and to develop tools to get rid of the discomfort you might feel in groups. That is, if you even want that, nothing wrong with getting a pet that will accept you unconditionally and showering it with love
JacktheKind
oh look, a fellow neurodivergent person. Once I accept who I was, I became more relaxed, less hard on myself and in general easier to be around with. Getting diagnosed and realizing I'm not lazy and inconsiderate, I just work different and am able to communicate that really improved my social and life over all.

I feel exactly the same way. I don't know if it's a me problem or a them problem or something I can fix or something I can't.
BaconAlmighty
Welcome to the world. Nobody feels accepted anywhere
verone3784
Likewise, I've always felt like an outsider everywhere I've been. Coincidentally, my boyfriend is a huge raging furry, and I've found that generally those who are a part of the fandom are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
Gryah
But why is he so full of rage then, I thought furries were supposed to be cuddly and cute
RobErtE87
You'll yiff it out some day.
ProChoiceBaby
Don't worry, it gets worse the older u get!

I accept you, and I am proud of you. You are important to this universe, you are worthy of love, and if you ever need an ear, I will listen to you. <3

Fur-friend! *hugs* I've been very fortunate to find some wholesome friendships within the fandom. There are always some extremes in the no so good way, be wary. But I'm glad you've found someplace where you don't feel so singled out. I'll be at a few cons this year which I'm super excited for.
Okiegoon
I feel accepted everywhere, a face for every occasion. To the point I kind of don't really know who I am anymore. A people pleaser most definitely, but a therapist I had asked me one time "What do you want for you" and I didn't have a real answer that I could think of at the time. I seem to have lost myself in the faces I wear for various situations and am trying to find my way back to myself. Feels like it's going to be a long road.
Rethaxian
I feel that. I also feel like people don't include me unless I initiate.
BigOrangeCats
You fit in here!
RabbitRevenge
well if you have never felt acceptance ever in your entire life , then you cant miss what you have never had. so you are free to roam the world enjoying life on your terms, unhindered by anyone else's presence. you're so lucky, enjoy that!
Grenateh
Yep welcome to the club even the hobby I have been at my entire life, video gaming, has been supplanted by fuckawful tribalism and sportsbro douchebags who are somehow now the gatekeepers despite being the outsiders.

You're always welcome here OP, this is your second home. I don't know you but there are people on here who care. Take care of yourself.

Same here. Finally getting diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder helped make sense of it for me, but it doesn't make it any easier either.
BobaFettApproves
Self diagnosed as aspie (not just adhd) never could keep friends, always weird kid, still the same lonely oddity just older now.
PineappleLoopsBroether
Tom859
Not formally diagnosed, but same. I was in my late 40s when I finally figured it out. I'm now in my mid 50s and still alone 99% of the time, but at least the nagging "why?!" isn't tormenting me.
Salpinus
For lots of things you can take meds, but you can't for being an Aspie, right? So, is the diagnose helping with anything at all except giving an explanation as to why you're this and that way?
RoseHarmonic
The greater the degree of understanding, the more easily you can apply the lessons learned by other people going through the same struggles. That's what I did. Once I learned enough about autism that I recognized it in myself, I watched some content that helped me out. The Aspire World, Ponderful, and The School of Life were each very helpful yt channels.
DerpeDimmer
I got diagnosed a while ago as an adult. It explained a lot.
Audasity
for me, its like a light is finally on when i walked around in the dark my whole life. just knowing that my brain does in fact work differently has helped me tremendously. yes, things can still be a pain in the ass, but, at least now i know why

Same here! 2-3 weeks ago - A and B.

For me the diagnosis has only made it worse. Like my behaviour is somehow so different from others that that makes it make sense for them to hate me? I don't know when I'm 'acting autistic' either. It makes no sense to me, I just suffer the consequences. I hate autism. It doesn't make me 'special' it just makes me sad.
drezrale
Same... I'm constantly being shoved out of communities for my autism, very few people can deal with it turns out. It's made dating incredibly hard, It's me trying to do anything with any community incredibly difficult and there's very few people out there who actually can tolerate it, It's typically parents with autistic kids who can, then joining autism communities is so much worse these days too because now everybody has it. I just don't want to be attacked for sharing my special interests
ferallypeculiar
You know you’re “acting autistic” when people try to exit the conversation lol
L4dead2
It made me feel better about feeling why I was so different from everyone else. Never understood why people rejected me for no reason. Always called weird and awkward growing. The best friends I have now didn’t even like me at first but with enough time they became the greatest friends ever that protected me. I sometimes don’t like feeling different but at at the same time I feel it makes me more unique than what’s considered normal
neithermenoryou
Try and find some autism led communities and see if that helps any, preferably on any of your special interests. A lot of normies can't really wrap their heads around autistic people but in autistic communities you will likely find more people that think like you. Also people that claim it's a gift are toxic trash. While it doesn't lower the worth of a person it is a disorder and requires some special considerations in a lot of areas, but good luck finding anyone who actually understands that.
drezrale
As someone who has tried to find these communities, They tend to be very absolutely the most toxic communities I've ever been in. What happens a lot especially for my special interest which is art, The normies come in and ruin everything for everybody, and with one form of it it's turned into such a nightmare of companies deliberately abusing autistic people with bullshit lies to get more sales because one problem with autistic people is that we tend to believe things at face value, so then the
drezrale
Companies will go out of their way to market and such deceiving deceptive ways, a good example of this is the mini painting community where they have it in their head that their paint are so unequivocally special and better than everything else when they're actually low quality, They will go out of their way to attack and remove anyone who says otherwise, then the normies come in and make it a hug box so any minor disagreement, like brush brands or styles, causes huge community outrage against
drezrale
That one person who disagreed. Its gone so bad that I've actually had people show up to my place of work to try to get me fired, The problem is that I own the company which they didn't know and they were complaining to me about me. I've had numerous content creators also start a hissy fit against me as well because I call out a brand for abusing their customers or just be honest about chemistry and how polymers work as a paint manufacturer myself. It's awful
