? stalking ?

The 4th Amendment is about people's "persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures". A camera in public doesn't affect any of those.

There's a completely separate legal argument to be had about being _tracked_ in public.

Oh I absolutely fucking hate them. Wish their was some kind of license plate cover that would scramble the shit so they cant ping me. And just wear a mask everywhere :-/

You should have to inform your neighbors when you install a doorbell cam. Some of them can listen in on audio up to 50 feet away, it's not just selling your own privacy, it is actually invading that of your neighbors.

They're free. You can take them. But they do have GPS so you might want to do something else first :)

They ignore their holy book, so why are we surprised that they ignore their holy parchment as well?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lemme just say that if I wanted to kill someone I still wouldn't because of how common security cameras are.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of us thought that the minute we heard about them, like last year...

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Turning into"? Boy I gotta tell you about these files that were released back in 2011. Becoming more efficient at mass surveillance maybe.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Nope. Just you.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It would be a shame if people knew how many pounds of sellable copper tend to be integrated into those camera setups.

Turning into??

1 - stockings are things you wear on your feet/legs, akin to socks. stalking would be the term for surveillance.
2 - this isnt new by any stretch, but it is bad and it is getting worse

Was there an article recently? I've just noticed a higher number of posts today. It's been a public thing since early last year when TOS for Ring devices changed giving US law enforcement 100% free and unrestricted access to all products. But yeah stopflock.com

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Ring has retracted it's contract in order for law enforcement to have unabited access to their servers. But still I just don't understand not just recording things locally to a DVR, and having that all on a closed Network that can be retrieved when needed. We need to stop relying on third party data centers to store data for us. Keep that shit to yourself. Keep your data private. Not to mention fuck data centers. Don't give them a reason to spread.

**stalking

Back when Steve Jobs was alive, he had this same fear to the point that he'd trade in his new car every 3 months for a different one just so that it never carried a permanent license tag. And that was at least 15 years or further back.

There's an App for that - https://deflock.org/

Nope

Destroy the panopticon!

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What do you mean "turning into"?
The US has been a surveilance state at least since 2001.
Probably before that too.

Oh look, someone who remembers the patriot act. I member too bud, I member too...

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly. The "we can throw a piece of paper with the word 'terrorist' written on it in your general direction and that gives us all the justification we need" act.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be stalking if they targeted individuals.

They're just an illegal wholesale invasion of privacy, especially when the data is sold to law enforcement.

They make excellent targets however.

Speaking of tracking, the ?si=xxxx part of Youtube link shares is a tracker tag.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yep, the question mark and everything after should be deleted after pasting.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely not.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This. If you haven't watched his channel, you should probably do so.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, technology should never be free to use for cops. Also, if you buy into the stupid ass SCOTUS take on originalism, it definitely isn't because cameras didn't even exist back when the Constitution was written, and therefore absolutely would not fall within the realm of acceptable policing tactics.

1 week ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

We've already turned into a surveillance state.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, because that is exactly what they are.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am sorry to say that the American Constitution does not protect the right to privacy. Nor has you corporate-funded congress spontaneously decided to pass laws protecting privacy.

Someone in my town keeps burning out their lenses with a laser or something apparently

1 week ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 2

Not all heroes wear capes. Some use laser pointers.

1 week ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

As an administrator of these things please do it only wastes our compliant fucking cities time and we get a replacement for free costing the compliant ass company money

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you're in a prime spot to do some damage from the inside

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

bit o warning, red lasers won't harm MOST of them(the ones of decent quality) but green and blue ones(the high powered ones, IE the actual DANGEROUS ones) will zimp them out instantly, ALTHOUGH they are also considered risky to own since there was an event where some assholes were aiming them at pilots landing and could cause serious damage(They WILL perma-damage eyes if u get hit with them, do NOT use these to play with cats, even the reflection will damage their eyes forever)

1 week ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info!

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. Funfact, you can buy those green lazer pointers on ebay

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It works . Youtube is your friend

1 week ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Good to know. Will look it up. There have to be some good techniques at self camouflage so that you can't be identified (last thing they see after the camera feed is burned out).

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can also wear welding sunglasses it blocks the AI from seeing your face. You just need to make sure they are ir 3.0 or higher blocking
